I have a friend who suggested Reiki healing. I've done some reading and watched some YouTube videos (those must be authoritative, right?!). But I'm not convinced.
Has anyone had first hand experience with this, and be willing to share?

I have had quite a bit of experience with Reiki, different practioners, different results.
at the very least it creates a great sense of peace and calmness within me. and I believe
that can open the door to healing. what we believe, is what can happen.
I also highly recommend accupunture.

I totally agree with this. I would get it before chemo at CTCA and it made me unbelievable calm and relaxed. Literally, the second the woman would start my breath would slow down and I would feel very peaceful. And that feeling would last for quite a long time, like a couple of days.

It's being used in some hospitals nowadays and they did a trial comparing the benefit to those that got reiki versus those that got "fake" reiki and there was a definite benefit. I get it myself once a week and like it. The practitioner will tell me what area of my body needed more energy...and it is usually right on with what I am feeling. Go to someone that you know or someone that you think that you can trust. There have been reports where it actually did cure some people of their cancers.
It is used in hospitals! I know for sure it's used in children's hospitals. We tell them it's magic hands (that's not creepy :) My teacher gave us Reiki I and next month she's going to give us reiki II! I'm very excited. I've done it on myself and I've felt calm, warm feelings each time. One time in particular I felt waves throughout my body. I'm still learning about it, but I think it is definitely real.

I know a lot about Reiki. I studied about it when I worked with women undergoing treatment for breast cancer. I went to a doctor (MD) who is a reiki master. I began reiki treatments for myself and benefitted from them. I have seen it work on others and have felt it work on myself.
I believe the best way to decide is to find a Reiki practitioner (best is by word of mouth) and have a session. Since Reiki is energy healing, it CANNOT harm you. The worst thing that can happen is you don't perceive any benefit from one treatment. Then you would need to decide for yourself if you want to continue receiving Reiki or not.
Reiki has kept me NED (also my meds) for 3 years. It does work better when you believe in it, but it takes time to really get over the "weirdness" if you have never been exposed to healing with energy...the way I saw it: It at least helped me relax and it never hurts!
Try it and it will change yoiur life, I promise!
It has cured my migrains, UTIs and even kept my blood levels stable.
Hi Joan, I have taken Reiki training and love it. I find it relaxes me and brings peacefulness to my whole being. It is energy. Your intentions and your openness will direct the energy where it is needed. Whether it cures is up in the air. My Reiki teacher just passed away from a very aggressive form of breast cancer.
There is a well known Reiki teacher here in Victoria who is also a Catholic nun. They have just finished a documentary on Reiki and Sister Eileen. What I am trying to say is that it crosses over between many belief systems.
The best thing to do is to try it! There is no harm, only the possibility of benefits. There is also something very lovely about taking an hour for oneself and having another caring human being laying their hands lovingly over your body!
