Goji Berries &/or Goji Juice? I've heard some amazing things & I've even bought some of the little, red berries at Whole Foods. Do you all think this stuff lives up to the claims and is worth the moola?
I love some goji berries, but the real ones, not the juice. I take about 5 dried berries and drop them into my hot 'lemon and agave nectar' tea. It makes a pinkish potion that makes me smile. The berries get all plumpy and soft and are great to munch on at the end of the 'tea'. I also add a few berries to a salad once in a while too. If a 'salad dressing' is too pale and needs a tiny bit of color and sweetness, I throw in some goji before I grind up the salad dressing in my mini blender. I use goji when I may have used a couple of raisins or a few dates. It's nice to mix things up a bit.
Yeah, I think the gogi berries at the very least are a great low glycemic flavor zip treat instead of raisins or dates which have a lot more sugar in them.
I am going to revive this thread because I got some dried goji berries today and my boys do not like them. Everything else on Earth could be dehydrated and they would eat it; but not these. Any suggestions as to what to do with this big bag I have now? any kid friendly recipes?
You can throw goji berries in smoothies. Soak them in water to plump them up and then maybe try adding them to cereals, trail mixes, raw ice cream with cocao sauce or wherever you might add other berries. Add a touch of honey or agave if needed. They are great in salads too. If you make cookies or bars in dehydrator, goji can be added too.
Goji berries are considered a superfood with many health benefits. I personally prefer them soaked so they plump up over dried. I don't eat a lot of dried fruits but I don't think they're as sweet as dried.
they're not even close to the sweetness of other dried fruit. My kids like them mixed into their trail mix, but definitely not on their own. I find them to be a very subtle dried fruit in comparison to something like a raisin or pineapple which seem to burst with sugar in your mouth.
I love goji berries and regularly use them in smoothies or alone with a few almonds. Yum yum and super good for you. I get mine from Amazon, brand name Organic Nectars. On their packaging it says, " one of the world's greatest sources of antioxidants and beta-carotene, amino acids, essential fatty acids, trace minerals & vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C and E." Also it indicates to use in smoothies, salads, yogurt, cereals and brewed as tea.
I think they last for some time as they are dried. I've never had a problem with mine and I've been using them for 2.5 years. I get them in big bags too and I keep the package in a sealed baggie. I also like to add them to my green tea. Yum!
That is good to know because I made a "trail mix" with ours and sent it to school in their lunch - only the goji berries came back. It looks like I will have to tackle the huge bag myself.
