Hey everyone! I was wondering if any of you can recommend some good digestive enzymes to take. There is a plethora (I'm sorry-first word that springs to mind) of them on the market but I don't want to waste my time and money on one that isn't top-knotch.
I am particularly concerned about this since having radiation last winter to my neck. My saliva glands have never returned to normal and since digestion starts in the mouth, I know that I am certainly missing some important pieces of the process. (Not to mention that I am sure my body would appreciate a bit of help in general as well)
Pineapple is Wonderful! it's probably one of the best for digestion, healing and is a great amino acid. i'm sure you've probably heard this but, chew, chew, chew helps your body make more enzymes. Good luck to you sweetie! dona
I take one my doctor (also a vegan) takes which is specially for vegans and vegetarians. It is called Similase BV. I love it. I also take Ultra Flora IB to restore my gut flora which is an even more important part of the process.
You should check with a doctor before taking anything.
I also had neck radiation and lost a lot of salivary function. I was starting to wonder if that is affecting my digestion(which isn't good right now). I'm glad you asked this question, although I don't have any answers for you.
I take a brand called Enzalase. My doc loves these - He is one of the best docs in the world and I trust him. Pricey. But they do seem to really help. http://www.enzalase.net/
Wobenzyme is not for digestion per se but for joint pain, inflammation. It is supposed to be taken on an empty stomach, away from meals, to digest all the floating protein molecules that are causing pain.
Prescriptions are stronger. I also take 2 Creon tablets with every meal. I have a very compromised digestive tract and thus need both (or so the doc says). I have particular trouble digesting fats.
Enzymedica Digest Gold and Garden Of Life Omegazyme Ultra are 2 of the strongest formulas. Very similar ingredients to David Wolfe/Sunfood's enzyme formula, but cheaper. As Bueller mentioned, probiotics are very important as well. But Ultra Flora IB has milk and soy in it, so definitely not that one. Need a non-dairy version.
