Anyone got tattoos that define them? Their journey? Life meaning? I'm wanting to get a tattoo in the upper middle part of my back that defines what I've gone through/am going through physically and mentally with my illness. Something that will bring me back to reality when I'm up in the clouds. I'm really digging celtic symbols at the moment. I wonder if we can post pics of our tats on the discussion board...
On my one year anniversary of having my brain tumor removed, I had my eight tattoo done. It is two calla lilies crossing through a gray ribbon.
Of course, this comes with a funny story. Two days after my brain surgery my surgeon was in my room checking on me, as he did often. My husband and I asked my surgeon (the most wonderful doctor in the world) if I would be able to get a tattoo... his response: "On your head?!?!?!" And I tried not to laugh b/c it still hurt my head to laugh, while we told him there would be no tattooing my head!
Awesome idea!Start a tatoo club! I love them.I have 3. I guess my favorite is simple,it's the chinese symbol of FAITH on my right ankle.I got it before I was diagnosed.Without faith,I'd be nowhere.
I have a butterfly that I got on St. Patrick's day in 2000. I can't belive it's been 8 years already! I am getting another tattoo this weekend in San Diego when I go visit my brother. We will have matching tattoos!
So I'm in an odd position trying to get a pic of my ankle, the one on my lower back should be a treat to captureLOL
I don't have skills to get pic on here yet,I'm working on it.May need techno advice.I left a message about you pics.
ha, lol, i <3 this...
I have tons of tats, more planned. Some have meaning, some are for the love of the art. I am obsessed with all things Sailor Jerry. He mainstreamed western tattooing, is/was a huge figure in the industry. Conventions/etc...tattoo industry is my world...
I have: whew...deep breath....
Shakespeare on my hips (both sides) that reads "Step Between Her and her fighting soul" other side "Conceit in weakest bodies strongest works"
I have an egyptian phoenix on the left side of my back, symbolizes a new life
I have guardian angel wings with my zodiac in the middle, to symbolize protection
I have a cancer ribbon on my ankle....this one is obvious
I have two star lines on my stomach....they are cute and fun
I have a traditional sailor jerry swallow on my foot.
I added to that in sailor jerry style two dice and the words "let the good times roll" because...well..thats what life is all about!

Next, I have the sketches for a derringer in-front of a lotus. The derringer is the palm size gun women in the wild west days would wear in their garters to shoot disrespectful men. Talk about a symbol of strength! The lotus is rebirth and keeps it girly. To me I look at it as this amazingly strong symbol being countered with my girly side.
Ok, thats all. haha.

Hmmm, mine may not exactly fit here....but a few days before my mastectomy last week my girlfriends did a mendhi tattoo on the healthy breast that says "I am WHOLE"...backwards, so I see it in the mirror. It makes me smile, even with a 12" incision on the other side. I am planning on getting it made permanent after I heal...and maybe a "fuck cancer" backward as well :-)
I wasn't going to reply to this Tattoo post until I saw yours...too funny. I need two tattoos since I have two ta-ta's to recreate!! I know that you understand...hang in there girlfriend!
