I just got turned on to this amazing stuff and I can't get enough of it. What/how/when/where are you all using it. I wanted to put it on sprouted bread (it reminds me of peanut butter) but that's a food combo no-no -- other than that, what are you guys doing with this super creamy, dreamy spread?
I love the one that Kris has in the book--slice a sweet potato and top with tahini and bake. One of my very favorite snacks!
I am going to make that as soon as I get home!
Happy Friday!

Oh baby, tahini...on everything! Well, technically food combining doesn't allow for protein and starch HOWEVER, seeds are kinda a free pass. They are far easier to digest especially if you take some enzymes with them. I also use tahini on celery sticks, in salad and veggies dressings. Thin it out and make a sauce. Go wild woman. Just remember there's lots of good fats in there so definitely indulge but don't over do it. xoxoxo
One of my tahini faves is a mock Caesar salad dressing I adapted from Sarah Cramer's La Dolce Vegan cookbook:
1 c. tahini, 1/2 c. water, 1/2 c. lemon juice, 2 Tbsp. nutritional yeast, 2 Tbsp flax oil, drizzle of tamari/shoyu to taste, dijon mustard to taste. Fresh ground pepper.
I toss the whole thing with a whole head of romaine, some fresh mushrooms and sprouts and whole grain, homemade croutons. DELISH. Other times I'll cook up a "mock chicken breast" and make a Mock Chicken Caesar. Holly god.. I thought I died and went to heaven with that meal... easy, fully of protien, high in healthy fats...
Another easy recipe is like the above, but substitute a miso of your choice for the shoyu/tamari and omit the mustard. I like to drizzle (okay, okay- POUR) this over a 'dragon bowl'- brown rice, sushi seaweed paper (nori make), your pic of steamed greens, sweet potatoes, oyster mushrooms, dried mushrooms, etc. Sky's the limit!
Tahini is a staple in my life... and nearly any seed or nut butter can be substituted for a flavour change.
I'll keep posting as I think of some of my other tahini favourites.
So its true?!?! Tahini is neutral?? Oh yeah!! Yum! I bet it would be delish on celery (maybe with a few raisins like ants on a log!!) Dannnng, I love tahini!! I am middle eastern so its a staple in our diet!!
What kind of tahini do you guys get? The kind I just bought is pretty bitter...
Wait.... just to be sure before I go crazy with the tahini.... Do you try to eat it mainly with the nuts/dried fruit category and then use it only on occasion with starches/protein? I don't want to go balls to the wall with the stuff and abuse my 'free pass'!!
That's true, Jess. I know Kris said we have a little bit of wiggle room with seeds so...I guess maybe once in awhile a tahini/starch combo might be okay. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Ok, here's a question...anybody ever make halavah out of raw tahini? On the back of my jar of tahini it basically says: Mix Tahini with honey and you have halavah, a middle eastern delight...somehow i haven't done this yet but i want to. I just don't know the measurements of each...and then what? Put it in a bowl? Slice it up? I'll experiment and see what happens!!!

Stupid question here... I spent 30 freakin' minutes at the store today trying to find tahini (my first time) and after asking the people that work there, and searching until I couldn't stand it... I was unable to find it. Where oh where do you find this in the store?? What section would it be in??
Usually in the organic section next to the peanutbutter and other nut butters but not always. I spent way too long cruisin' the isles one day with no one (including the people in the health food section) able to help me. Luckily on the next trip I stumbled on it myself. Good hunting!
