My Crazy Sexy Life

I am preparing some marketing materials for a reiki program at my local cancer center, and I am wondering if any of you have had any experience with reiki during cancer treatment. I would love to be able to use any testimonials.

PS -- I have been getting reiki for a short time and already feel much more relaxed. That in itself is a benefit!

Doreen, I am a Reiki Practioner (with all three attunements). My dear friend (Karen) was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. We had several Reiki sessions. You should ask her about her experience with receivng Reiki. I would be interested in hearing her response myself. ~ Green Blessings!

My therapist was the first one a few years back to do Reiki on me. i then found a hollistic massage therapist who did reiki along with other hollistic technics on me. When i was diagnosed with AML leukemia i had to go to the hospital for 06 days once a month for chemo treatments. A few days before i was scheduled to go in for chemo, i always called my massage therapist and got a hollistic massage. In my honest opinion it helped me greatly. My whole body was opened up and ready for the chemo to go through my entire body without getting "stuck" for example accross the shoulders where alot of my tension lies. If you have the opportunity to do Reiki during treatments i would highly recommend it.

The Brigham in Boston provided reiki for me prior to my open heart surgery for tumor removal. I then had it all through chemo.... don't think I would have made it through without it.

I did reiki for the first time during my chemo treatment for breast cancer. I did two sessions and felt very relaxed after each one. After the second session, I walked away with the feeling, "I'm going to be OK" which was the first time I felt that way during the whole bc ordeal.

I had reiki during my radiation treatment and LOVED it...I am actually thinking about going for more sessions..
I really miss it..I felt so relaxed and looked forward to my weekly session..I didnt do the the reiki during my chemotherapy because I didn't know it was offered then. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

This is an interesting discussion. I would love to hear more from people too! My teacher at school is a reiki master and she attuned all her students (including me) for level 1. I'm still learning about it and its growing use in the hospital. Children in hospitals love magic hands :)

Thank you all for your comments. I too am experiencing the wonderful benefits of Reiki. I had a treatment last week, and Monday I had an appointment with my oncologist, which I usually get very nervous for. I am swaying on the fence regarding continuing treatment, and have been filled with a lot of conflict. I was anticipating a stressful visit. However, I was amazed at how calm and centered I felt. If Reiki can reduce the stress and anxiety we feel during our illness -- what a blessing!

Have any of you learned to do self-Reiki?

When I was doing really poorly last year, I had two friends who did reiki on me several times, I loved it!
I have a book and I naturally do some of the hand placements on myself in the evening.
I hear it is common practice in the hospitals in Japan.

I received reiki on a regular basis for several months after my treatment ended. Through reiki I released a ton of negative energy, became more attuned to my body and to the flow of energy through and around me, identified issues in my life that needed work and discovered my life path. Oh ya, it was relaxing too. I've had two attunements and am in a 6 month masters program. My wife also gives me reiki and it has provided some down to earth benefits such as curing belly aches that I continue to experience from my treatment. I can't say enough about it.
