If you read it though, she traveled and had to go to VEGAS without the chef which must be REALLY hard if you don't know what you're doing. and people were offering her brownies and all this stuff.
Hope the chef will post some recipes!
I think it's great that she did this, even if it had tofu because everyone has to experience their own transition phase, or their own new style of eating, that doesn't include meat when meat was a staple for them. She still went pretty strict by leaving out alcohol and gluten.
It would be very cool if she did more juicing. I remember a while back she was drinking a "fresh" juice recipe almost daily that (I think) Dr. Oz showed her. I don't know if she's keeping it up or not.
My father can't have gluten because he's got celiac disease, which I think affects his small intestine. Gluten damages the cilia so nutrients aren't absorbed by the body and celiac can lead to other things. Symptoms of it include many different types of stomach issues. Some people are also sensitive to gluten without even having celiac. Gluten is in Everything! Well, that's what it seems like. It's in all flour products, wheat, oats, and then things you would never think of like toothpaste and stamps!
I think this is fantastic as well. mostly because it brings the topic up in general and makes people think about something that for the most part they don't give much, if any, thought to. The discussion is going and I am grateful for that. I checked out her blog and was really impressed by her latest comments about how she really has understood what the exercise was about and is grateful for the experience and will continue to embrace much of this going forward. I'm glad that she also enlisted folks on her team, the entry by one of her staffers who went from full on SAD to the max to feeling light and healthy was nice to see too as Oprah already eats pretty well. It definitely made for a great example to have someone who went from gallons of diet coke, pizza, and all the other SAD food as her staples to being successful for 21 days on a healthy, vegan diet. Bravo to the Oprah team.
On a side note, I tend to have a hard time reading the comments in the discussion forum. I really, really try so hard to keep my ego out of the way I think about and react to responders, especially the negative or uneducated ones. I do have to remind myself though that her forum is open to millions upon millions and so there will be lots of varied opinions (which tend to be more fervent online). I do have to say though that there were A LOT of people really embracing the challenge, asking questions and wanting to learn more and to at least try, so that's a really big win in my book. Can't please/change everyone, right? One at a time, my mantra these days, learned from my rescuing dogs and cats, one at a time makes a big difference in the life of the one who is being helped.
I like the fact that she is bringing awareness to compassionate and conscious eating. Yes, baby steps in the American consciousness, but a step in the right direction.
