So I was in the ER with my daughter today because she was having abdominal pain.. (she's fine) and the doc taking care of her told us that he is hesitant to do a CT on any child unless it is absolutely necessary because of the high amounts of radiation that the scanner emits-- apparently 50 times that of a regular x-ray! He said that there has been a strong link found between a child's exposure to this radiation and cancer later in life. I am a nurse & I had never heard this, so I assume it is not general knowledge & wanted to pass it along. I think the higher risk with children is due to the fact that their little bodies are growing so fast & their cells are dividing, so although there is also risk to adults, the risk is MUCH greater for our little ones. I just wanted to pass it along so everyone was aware!
