My Crazy Sexy Life

Green Tea Question :)

Hi Smarties! I don't know where you live but here in LA it's blazing hot! So here's my question - does making green tea iced make it lose any of it's healthy properties? Let's say I make a big ole batch and drink it over 3 days? Is it something that has to be consumed right away?

I'd love to know! Thanks!

Hi! I lived in Japan for a year and I love a cup of green tea but you really need to get the good stuff. Green tea leaves with roasted grains of rice is really nice - the rice sets off any bitterness. In regards to drinking it iced - don't make it hot then cool it for later. You'll lose all the goodness. Instead, use twice as many tea leaves and put it straight into cold water, then cool it in an air-tight containter. This way you don't lose any of the nutrients. I find Japanese green tea is the nicest (it actually looks green, rather than Chinese green tea which looks yellow). Just a note though - green tea does have a certain amout of caffeine in it but also has antioxidants which are great for the body. It's also great for digestion!

Hey Adventure grrl! Sure you can make a pitcher of green tea and keep it! I think the trick to keeping all the goodies of green tea is not to boil it. Bring the water to ALMOST a rolling boil. Turn off the water...count to 10...THEN pour it over the tea.
If you like spicy...simmer some ginger root (peeled and sliced) in the water (just under a boil) for a little while, then turn off the heat and put the tea in. Very spicy and good cold :) yumm
If you try it let me know what you think!
