My Crazy Sexy Life

I dunno if this is the right place to post this or not but I was just curious to see if anyone else had negative like support when u decided to change to a raw diet or even a healthier lifestyle? I have had people complain a lot since i have converted the people in my life do try to help in their own special unique way but bringing over crappy food to someone who is sick and getting offended when u really cant eat it (they had previous knowledge of said healthy diet just assumed it would be modified for their visits) is kinda weird I just found it odd that no one really gets it or i guess understands that it is an important thing to me now esp because i feel like i have little control over my body since being diagnosed and doing the raw diet and yoga is like my haha look what I can do yay me moment of control sorry if this sounds like a booey me post i was just curious if anyone else had experienced the same thing as it came as a surprise

I am trying to get to much healthier lifestyle and my sister has admitted that she has serious problems with supplements, juicing, etc. We are both pretty stubborn and our mother is a Thyroid canser survivor. Mom has talked with both of us about the power of natural remedies but it was a big deal for my sister to admit and own up to the hang up being HERS. Mom's cancer and my ongoing health issues this year have brought up alot of things for all of us. Just remember, get healthy for you and other peoples' discomfort is their issue for them to handle. Proud of you for doing the raw diet and yoga--hope to be there in next month.

I just askd this question recently myself. Everyone gave me some fabulous support and words of wisdom. I'm new here as well. Maybe you can search for it?

As soon as I say I am changing my food and losing wt. All of the sudden people start bringing me SAD food. These are usually people who love me and I love them. Problem is I have gotten more support by saying nothing and just changing. In this way I can witness to them in a loving way by the way my body is better.

Hi Fiona! I have a similar experience and it seems that when you change your diet, especially if it's very noticably different from what everyone else eats, people either complain or get annoyed about it. I find it's from a lack of understanding of why you're doing it. However, even after you do explain, I find that some people still think that you're going to change just because they're around or coming over for dinner. That's the real test I find - I've just held strong and kept at it and people will soon just accept the fact that you don't eat what they do. They become much more supportive over time. Trust me, it'll get easier! xo

Hi Fiona:
This is a totally natural feeling you are having. Unfortunately the majority of the population doesn't understand. The best thing I have found is to reply by directing people to books or websites for information and not explaining myself or my decisions. If people bring me food I can't eat I just smile, say thank you, and put it in the kitchen or somewhere for "later". Then I give it to my friends. I still get it all the time when I go to lunch with people. When they give me their opinion, usually about why meat is good for you, I just smile and say, "isn't that interesting" and change the subject. You will find lots of support here. Good for you for taking control of what so many others think is impossible. Congratulations. What a wonderful achievement!

Fiona,
Keep doing your thing. It ain't easy for us to change, and it ain't easy for others to accept our changes. Cancer seems to turn us into a Rorschach where others can project their own issues, including death and lifestyle. What a great position to be in. Congrats on the difficult changes you've made.

Oh yes, I have definitely experienced A LOT of the same. I ditto what everyone said. Just always remember, it is about your health first and foremost. At first I used to get defensive at the things people would say or comment about or would get frustrated by their seemingly illogical reasoning for "their way." What I realized is that for me it was easier to just do and not talk about it and if asked, to provide a brief, educational type answer. And most importantly for me was to see their comments as a reflection of their ego and the fact that they hadn't yet learned any other way, they are just speaking what they know. Leading by example is really huge, people seem to have a more positive response when they see/hear about the positive effects, then they seem to do a 180 (not all, but some) and want to jump on board! So keep on keepin on, you're doing good for you and that's what's important! Hugs!
