We're sorry, but this discussion has just been closed to further replies.
are we surprised? the vaccine is now under investigation. there've been 500 reports of adverse reactions in NY alone (many more nationwide and 18 deaths)
what was the point of this? it doesn't prevent anything; you still have to get pap smears
it seems its greatest benefit was to the drug company to make up for their loss of income from the vioxx scandal
Carolyn, I had started a discussion on this in the cervical canser group with little response. I have a 12 year old daughter and the doctors are pushing these vaccines hard. I go back and forth about what to do for her....on the one hand, if there is any way to protect her from this horrible disease, how can I not try??? The selling point is that it DOES protect from several strains (the most common ones, but not all). And on the other hand, I fear the side effects/reactions may not be worth it. Where did you get your info from? I have been looking for some information on the negative side effects, but can't seem to find it. As a mom, I want to do the best thing - and on this one - I can't get off the fence. Thanks, Sherry
sorry, i didn't see your discussion. bu tlisten, i'm a 55 yr old woman and i did fine without the vaccine. without all the zillions of other vaccines that they are forcing on infants and gee, the autism rate has gone up in some places 4000 - 8000%. but that's an aside
dr ralph moss has a spectacular article (it's more like a novella, about 26 pgs long) on guardasil. his major points were that the cancers it protected against were extremely rare, they were caught early enough with pap smears anyway, you still had to have pap smears since guardasil didn't even protect against all the cancers that pap smears catch, why force girls to have the vaccine as a condition of school attendence since it's not spread by casual contact and there is unlikely to be a cervical cancer epidemic sweeping through junior high, and isn't the next logical conclusion to innoculate all boys too since they give it to the girls and doesn't that make a lot of $$ for merck which they need since they are being sued left and right by the families of the 55,000 people who died from using Vioxx
and should we really trust merck after what they did with vioxx? and should we trust the FDA who didn't insist that vioxx be taken off the market even after they learned that harmful data had been supressed
i know you want to do the best thing for your daughter and i'm sure your mom wanted to do the best thing for you. did you have guardasil as a child? no- because it didn't exist. ok, you got Mantle Cell Lymphoma, but having a guardasil vaccine would not have helped you
doctors push drugs because they're told to push drugs. my friend told me that she went to her doctor once and he had a vioxx poster on the wall. when he noticed that she was looking at it, he said "listen, this is a bad drug. the only reason that poster is there is because I'M REQUIRED TO DISPLAY IT. don't ever ask me for that drug. i won't give it to you"
i'm sure there are doctors (see morejoy below) who willl say the same thing about guardasil. then there are others who get a cut to parrot the party line
if you want to do the best thing for your daughter, don't let her eat crap!
Thanks for taking the time to respond - I will look for Dr. Moss's article as a source for reference to possibly have some of my questions answered. I agree with you that the FDA and the drug companies push these drugs for the money and the doctors probably get a cut as well and I am not trying to pad their retirement funds by considering the vaccine for my daughter.
I have waited for a number of reasons, and further investigation is way up there on the list. I understand that the Gardisil vaccine would not have prevented the lymphoma, but that is a totally different discussion. I did read Morejoy's comments which help as well. I truly appreciate any and all input.
Doesn't surprise me at all. A co-worker attended a seminar on this particular subject. Pros and cons were discussed. After the seminar during a private discussion, a couple of doctors told her that she should NOT allow her daughter to get this vaccine. Not worth the risk and it does not cover all the viruses. Just another BS drug for big pharm if you ask me.
My 15 year old is going for her check up this week. I was all for the vaccine (my23 had it), but now I think I'll pass for her sake. She can get it when she is not a minor if she decides. I think she'll be delighted that she doesn't have to have a shot!
I think it is currently approved for girls up to the age of 26....that leaves plenty of time to see past the five year studies and what may happen with an investigation. My personal feeling is that as long as a girl is not sexually active, there is no need to rush into anything. I believe its a series of three shots, and not always covered by insurance either.
There is NO way I was gonna get the shot and it SHOULD not be required for schools.
My theory, you get pap smears regularly. Also you teach your teenage daughters to practice safe sex, or abstain from it until married. HPV is completely preventable. So instead of poking our kids with needles, lets give them facts and information.
I'm 27, and I knew of the risks of unprotected sex. My parents informed me of the risks and dangers. Even as a middle schooler, I was careful of my body and health.
just wanted to share some info I found from my previous thread about Gardasil...just in case if anyone wants more info about Gardasil .......please check out following.
