Wow, Thanks, Beuller for posting this. Interesting and scary stuff. I grew up in the fifties and sixties... I remember walking on the boardwalk at the Jersey shore as they sprayed for mosquitoes. We walked through the fog without a second thought. I probably have enough DDT in my system to exterminate a small swamp! I thought a lot about that when I got my lymphoma diagnosis.
My dad worked for 40 years (from the age of 18) at an asbestos pipe mill and died at 59 from mesothelioma. He used to come home covered in dust and I remember we weren't allowed to hug him till he changed and showered. He wasn't told how deadly the dust was, of course, just to "avoid breathing it."
And God knows what else, those days: Chemicals were our friends!
And yes, Austin, I agree, "Coop" is a cutie! Peace, Liz
Bueller - I am speechless, but so concerned, frustrated and sad. What has happened in the past we cannot change, but for my children - I sit here and wonder....what can I do to help them, to try to change more to ensure their health, as well as everyone else's. There is so much food for thought here - does anyone have ideas for starting points? Also, how can I get this video to others...I am techno-challenged, but would love to share. Thank you for the insight - it barely scratches the surface and scares the hell out of me.
And Austin - send a letter - I'm sure Anderson Cooper will love you!
Ashley, thanks for the links to Devra's stuff! The 100 year Lie is another good book to check out in this area. The author did similar toxic burden testing & was also surprised by the stuff in his system. Then he went to Hippocrates for a detox with raw/living foods and substantially reduced the toxic burden.

i consider myself a pretty low maintenence chick. i have never dyed my hair, had a cigarette, a cup of coffee or any alcohol. i have never used deodorants or perfumes. i won't use nail polish. i drink bottled (glass) water. i don't have a cell phone or a microwave. the only make-up i wear is mascara, maybe twice a year. i wear only natural fiber clothing
in high school i took birth control pills for 1 month. my college biology teacher told us the first day of class that she had been on the team of researchers that developed the pill and that NO ONE should ever take it. that was all i had to hear
i took antidepressants for about a week. they made me feel weird so i threw them down the sink when my parents weren't looking and we never got a refill
my cousin's wife had a bad flu shot once and spent a year in a wheel chair- that was enough for me. i'll never have another one
i've never had a mammogram
some years ago, i had my hair tested for chemical build up and i went through a round of chelation
i gave up ice cream when i was 11 and diet soda when i was 13
i did smoke grass and take LSD when i was in high school but that was so long ago, the flashbacks have stopped
i shop at an organic grocery store
i don't go for yearly physicals and the only time i see my GYN is before i buy property. i guess i want her assurance that i might be around before i sign a 30 year note. actually, the last mortgage i got, i didn't even bother to check in with her
i live in NYC so there's goes that! lord knows what we're breathing
this is actually a cool exercise. review your life and come up with a list of your hypothetical toxic load
but that film clip really made me want to get tested!
