Ok, in a fit of sheer desperation (of feeling like total crap with a cold/infection/fatigue) I just meandered aimlessly through my local grocery's organics/health section. Decided a new box of detox tea was in order, and after throwing some in my cart, stumbled across something called Organic Yerba Mate'. This particular one is from Pixie...
I absolutley love this stuff. I may be able to kick my morning coffee to the curb...wahoo! Delicious.
Anyone else have info/experience with Mate'? I am just curious as I am sort of new to this whole crazy sexy healthy stuff...lol.
I use one from Trader Joe's, it's Guayaki. I also like one by Traditional Medicinals which is a Ginger Yerba Mate. Sometimes I find the flavour of it to be boring, so I'll add some mint fresh from the garden.
I drink Yerba Mate every morning. It is what got me to quit coffee! I use the Guayaki brand. I didn't like the Pixie brand for some reason. But, the Pixie Mate-Chai blend is good. :)
I drink it and love it. Especially in the afternoon. It helped me get off coffee as did Dandelion Root Tea which tastes like coffee and is excellent for the liver as well as Teeccino which has great pre-biotics.
South America’s yerba mate and Asia’s green tea are two of nature’s most treasured, health-giving daily rituals.
A green tea is one that is not fermented and not roasted. Healthwise, green teas are superior to oolong and black teas as many of the beneficial antioxidant compounds are protected by the green tea production process. Black teas may taste sweeter because they are fermented and then roasted, but this flavor comes at the expense of its life giving properties. Just like in nature, green is life giving.
While yerba mate and green tea share many of the same benefits, (antioxidants, polyphenols, flavenoids, bio flavenoids, and theophylline) modern science shows that yerba mate has 52 more active compounds than green tea. There are 196 active compounds in yerba mate compared to the 144 found in green tea. In fact, yerba mate can boast higher polyphenol and antioxidant counts than either green or black teas.
You can get the benefits of both yerba mate and green tea in Guayaki’s Greener Green Tea, which is a nourishing combination of organic green tea, organic lemongrass, and organic yerba mate. This stimulating blend is an antioxidant powerhouse! Brew a cup to spark up your day. Makes an excellent iced organic tea too.
I'll have to look for that at the store! Thanks for the info bueller. Have you seen the chocolate mate? I wonder what it tastes like... I haven't bought it yet to try. :)
I have had it. It's a little dissapointing in that it doesn't really taste at all like chocolate. It's still good though. My mind hears chocolate though and gets all excited and starts to do a little dance so it has high expectations when it comes to that word.
I would like to try this tea..since I am a decaf tea drinker..but, does anyone know if there is any decaf natural tea out there? Please let me know..I would really appreciate it..
Hugs
Rebecca :)
