Hey Folks,
A quick bit about me. I am LauraB in the group. I am 36, mother of 2 beautiful little boys and was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2006. My husband Rich and I are riding in the Pam-Mass Challenge, which is fund-raiser for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Ma. (where I was treated.) The PMC is a 2-day bike ride from Wellesley to Provincetown, Ma (about 165 miles) and will take place August 2nd and 3rd. This ride is a great way for me to tie a bow around these last 2 years and to help give back to cancer research and to the place that takes such good care of me, and millions of other people. I am riding for all of us, everyone single one of us....this entire Crazy Sexy Community has been a huge source of inspiration and an integral part of my healing journey that you all need to know that you are with me in my mind, my heart and my spirit as we train for and participate in this ride. Although I will welcome donations, my intention for this stream is to simply let you know that all you crazy sexy people are right there with me every mile of the way. I am carrying names of family and friends that have been touched by cancer and if you would like me to add someone please let me know. Even if you don't send in any names, please know that the CSC group is included, with all the love and prayers that go around our community. Below is a link to my PMC page so you can read my story and donate if you are able to and only if you choose. My husband wrote a beautiful letter that is on my PMC page so check it out.
Have a great ride! I went to a fundraiser last weekend for three women who are riding! The PMC is the biggest athletic event fundraiser in the country and they expect to raise $34,000,000 (millions yes) this year.
Thanks Caroline. The PMC is an amazing event. This is my first ride but from what I hear people say it is fabulous and easy to get hooked on riding year after year. I'll let you know how it goes.
Very cool Laura! And what a beautiful place to ride, too. You know we will be there with you in spirit to cheer you on and I personally want to thank you for including all of us. xoxo Sherry
Okay, so read the steam and you will know that l I am riding in the Pan-Mass Challenge next weekend to raise money for cancer treatments and research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston......and you will know that I am taking this entire CSC community with me!
Does anyone have any favorites of raw food snacks and energy boosters that we can take along the way. The PMC has rest stops with food and drinks, but with the exception of fruit I don't suspect they will have any raw/healthy alternatives. Any ideas and suggestions are welcome.
Wow, great suggestion on the raw trial mix. I think I will go to Whole Foods this week to get the ingredients to take some with us. Of course, I will have some Lara Bars as well. I know these rides provide food, but often it is processed snack foods that I don't eat. I will report back as to the food etc. that is provided, it should be interesting. One would think/hope that a ride like this, supporting the Dana Farber and cancer that healthy choices would be served.....we shall see. About 7 years ago I did a 4-day (New York to Boston) ride for AIDS/HIV. From what I remember the food was all processed snack food with barely any healthy choices, with the exception of fruit. Even then I found it ironic that a ride that was raising money for something as serious as HIV/AIDS and had a lot of HIV+ participants served such unhealthy choices. I know that when I go to Dana Farber they offer lots of free snacks, but all junkie processes foods. Oh how I would like to see this changed....who knows, maybe the revolution can spread to Dana Farber and other hospitals of the like.
Thanks again and again for your support for the ride. It should be fabulous.....and remember you are all along for the ride with me.
cheers!
