My Crazy Sexy Life

Kids of Canser Kinfolk

So i know that there is a lot of kids out there who have "kinfolks" (parents) that have some type of canser. and i know that many of those kids could have s friend that they can talk to about there kinfolks. So thats what i wanted this topic to be all about. Discussing the new life that has started and how many thing have change. FOr example, in my situation when i found out that my mom was diagnosed with lukemia i didnt know what to do or say i just started crying. i didnt real ly know what to say. i didnt want to loose another mother. i just wanted her to be like a turtle and live to be 200 years old....but anyways so yeah what did you do when you found about your kinfolk having canser??

Wow! Great job kiddo. Keep up the good work. (Please edit your text! spelling baby spelling...)

Now we will need to recruit some more kids for your conversation!

I did try to find a group at MD Anderson for kids of canser patients. They have one for kids up to the age of 12. Then... nothing from 12 - 18. SO, you are a pioneer my wee one. Lead the way baby!

Lots of love,
Mum

Lili, you sweet thing....I think its true, some kids have a very hard time even accepting that their mom or dad has canser - let alone sharing their feelings about it. It also depends on their ages, and how much they really understand, too. I think the best thing we can do as parents is be honest and share with our kids, so then you guys are more comfortable sharing with others in your life! Your mom is sooo lucky to have you - keep blazing your trail and making your mom proud!!! (And Rhonda, back off on the spellcheck, she did great! hehehe - you know I love ya, too)

Thanks Sherry. It's true she is a great writer just moving too fast for spell check! I keep telling her when she writes her book I'll pay for the editing, so just write her heart out and we'll edit later.

Let's talk again soon. I really hope some others give her feedback and there are more kids online at some point.

Enjoy the weekend.....................

My daughter is only twelve, but an old soul who thinks and worries so much. I'm not sure she's ready to roam this CSL herself (maybe I'm not sure I'm ready). I do think its important that kids have a place to go to vent...maybe a CSL kids section is in our future!

Hope you're feeling better...love the new pic of you and Lili!! xoxo

Great idea. Let's talk with Kris about a kids network. I can set it up in Ning, but we need to be much more careful since it would be kids. Perhaps something through a hospital would be good where the 'logins' can be verified in some way? Hummmm. Let's imagineer on the idea.

I was 17 when I found out that my mom had cancer. At the time, I just couldn't even process it. We didn't talk about it much and she didn't want anyone outside the family to know she was sick so I couldn't really talk to my friends about it either. I would've loved a group like this! Thankfully, she has been in remission for quite a few years now but it's still scary every time she gets her scans or she feels like there's something abnormal. I admire your bravery in talking about this!

yeah i had a hard time telling people at school but i had many breakdowns those couple of months at school and ofcourse people asked me what was the matter and i had to tell them because i didnt want to lie to my true friends that were there for me when i needed them. i was scared that they were going to judge me or were going to talk about me or even make fun of me. but they didnt they were there for me. but yeah still i mean its still hits me hard at times. and i just talk about it with my mom.
