My Crazy Sexy Life

I am looking to chat with other CSC and your experiences with lung cancer. I am not finding many folks in my same situation....youngish (I am 51) and living with lung cancer. I am single, work full-time, and am still very active. Anyone want to create a discussion group for the white/clear ribbon?

I'm just getting started at juicing and growing my own wheatgrass. I have a fine centrifical juicer and a wonderful blender, but I'm in need of a wheatgrass juicer. Does anyone here know anyone who's got one for sale? If so, I'd love to find out what they have and how much they want for it. Either manual or electric, but $$ is an issue.

Phil, I believe Kris mentions a pretty inexpensive hand crank wheatgrass juicer in her book. Maybe check that out. Firefly

I am not a doctor, nor a nutritionist and don't have any formal training in medicine. However, I have never heard of their being a risk of bacteria from eating raw vegetables. To reduce any risk, you could wash them thoroughly. The benefits of the nutrients from the raw diet will boost his immune system offsetting any risks from bacteria. In fact, I'd say that he will suffer greater risk from kimo and radiation than a raw diet. To further boost his immune system he could drink Essiac Tea (http://www.essiacinfo.org). I drink 1/8 cup twice a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. He could also take EmergenC, which contains 1000 mg of vitamin C plus almost the entire B complex. I drink one packet of EmergenC twice a day, one in the morning, one in the evening.
I'm curious what kimo cocktail they have him on? Some work better than others, but I find that it's more of an individual thing than anything else. Also, are you aware of Scott Hamilton's Chemo Care web site (http://www.chemocare.com)? It has helpful information regarding what to look out for regarding side affects for almost every drug out there.
Good luck and remember that this is HIS disease, not the doctors'. You and HE get to decide what treatments you want to pursue and which ones you don't want. Look into all the alternatives such as Gamma Knife instead of whole brain radiation, Radio Frequency Ablation or Cryo-ablation and/or Cyber Knife instead of chemo-embolization, Proton radiation rather than conventional radiation, etc. And don't forget about Wheatgrass.

He's beginning with carboplatin and paclitaxel every three weeks.

Excellent point, Roxi... Yes, my white blood cell counts bottom out right on schedule during the kimo's nadir. Also, my body's blood rebuilding ability is fairly well compromised due to having had radiation to my entire lumbar and most of my pelvic region. Once in a rare while my oncologist gives me a blood booster to help me rebuild my counts. But I've never had any problem with infections from eating any foods, raw or otherwise (and I like my steak cooked very rare). That's not to say I haven't caught the usual colds, but those aren't bacterial. So yes... during nadir, you might take extra care to avoid crowds and wash your foods with extra care before eating them raw.

Oh my gosh-you all have been busy while I was off-line! I need to read and get caught up...this is so cool!
I am so glad we are finding each other and have such a collection of knowledge and support and hope. I am anxious to hear more about the Tarceva. Depending on the results of my next PET scan (April 10), I may be going off Alimta and on to Tarceva. I have had such incredible luck with Alimta. I have been on it since October 2005, with no breaks/every 21 days. Some days I get tired of it, but I know how lucky I am and how fairly "easy" it has been.
More later after I get caught up here. Thanks everyone!

We can chat either place. I still will be responding to some of the conversations here, since I got behind while on vacation. So, check here and then we can start up in our new location.
Thanks for sharing so much. It helps a lot.
