My Crazy Sexy Life

Anyone got tattoos that define them? Their journey? Life meaning? I'm wanting to get a tattoo in the upper middle part of my back that defines what I've gone through/am going through physically and mentally with my illness. Something that will bring me back to reality when I'm up in the clouds. I'm really digging celtic symbols at the moment. I wonder if we can post pics of our tats on the discussion board...

Currently I only have two butterflies swirling in a circle on my right hip but it feels a bit dated...it's about 12 years old now or more. So when I have enough healing on my skin...I had thoracic surgery a few years ago and because of all my illnesses I don't heal at all...so I have to wait but plan on adding a magnolia tree up the side starting the roots at the base of the butterfly hip and then having a couple of other small bflies added as well as a major cocoon with one bursting out representing my rebirth, several times through my illnesses and my final one with the big cocoon...no more illness one day!

I really want to get a tattoo with butterflies. I think they represent so many powerful things. I just don't know what or where to put it UUGGHH! any suggestions?

For a first tattoo you have to be comfy with where you put it and the yes, still angst against us tattoo lovers out there. I put mine on my hip to hide it from my mom but also so I could be corporate if need be and kind of as a personal secret to myself to try and be beautiful and graceful like butterflies are since I am so not graceful...

Hello, fellow ass-kickin cancer survivin' tattoo (or soon to be) sportin' hotties! I NEVER dreamed I would get a tattoo. All my friends have tattoos - some from their heads to the their feet. It wasn't until I made it through the Lymphoma and they removed my PICC line that I realized, "I finally have a PHYSICAL PLACE that was meaningful to me that I want to remember with a tattoo". So I began drawing my ideas on my kitchen chalk board, my husband helped me to refine it, photographed it, took it to the artist (the utterly BRILLIANT JILL JORDAN) and she made it into the final image - which is a cross between the yin-yang and Pisces symbol done with a New Zealand Native Maori style. The central DOT was the insertion point for my PICC line. I am in love with the image. Which is a good thing, because it's staring at me every day when I wake up and it smiles at me all day long. I embedded a gleaming smiling face in the body of one of the fishes (first photo) to remind me to keep on smiling, always, even through the harsh times, there is something good to be found in life. That's my tattoo story. -Tad

Tad,

That is truly one of the most beautiful tattoos I have ever seen. Remarkable really.
Hope you don't mind if I use it for a little inspiration.

As for being too fair. I'm as white as a filet of fish. I think you have to look at a LOT of tattoos before doing it. And really think long and hard about what you want. When all my friends were getting them, I would say that I NEVER would unless it was a monumental event in my life that I wanted to commemorate. That came with the cancer. Also, there are so many options now. Just look around your city and see who is doing what. Don't be afraid to ask strangers where they got their tattoo (You'll find that most people with tattoos usually enjoy talking about it) and exactly which artist did it, was it a good experience or not - especially if you like the piece. Don't rush it. You'll be happy later. I'm ecstatic with the way mine turned out for all of the above reasons. Also, if anyone wants to connect with my artist Jill Jordan (in Los Angeles) I will be happy to give you her number. I will NEVER let anyone else touch me after working with her.

thanks,
