I just wanted to start a discussion about the acid alkaline diet and the pH balance of the body. Do you track your pH or pay attention to your acid/alkaline balance?
I just wanted to start a discussion about what people are actively doing.
For me it involves:
Lots of greens
Green juice 1 to 2 times a day
Lots of non-sweet fruits
Lemon water and juice
Almond Milk Banana shake (rarely though as bananas are high in sugar)
Cabbage soup
What are your favorite alkalizing tonics and recipes?
B!I love this topic, I do test, but not daily any more. When I first started on raw and juicing I was a freak about it and was dissapointed that I was not always 'green". If I eat all veg, juice , little fruit and use my wheatgrass powder, I stay in the green.
More later, love ya
deb
I read Vasey's book on the ph balance and am very interested in this as well. I was a bit disappointed when I tested my urine and it was still acidic despite all that I am doing. I used my first morning urine. Is that what I am supposed to do? Also how long does it take your body to start registering at alkaline. I have been revamping my diet for about 4 weeks. I feel so much better and must admit was very disappointed that it was acidic on the strip.
I use test strips too. Like Deb, I used to be very rigorous about it, but now I only test a few times a month. For me, dark green veggies, lemon water, wheat grass powder (since I don't own a wg juicer), and stay away from as many acid foods/drinks as possible!! My pH is usually around 6.4, but I'd like to get it really green!
Where do you get the ph strips? The pharmacy in the drugstore? Do you test in the morning, after a meal, at night, or just whenever? Also, is testing your urine reliable? Is it going to be the same as your blood ph?
I get my ph strips from www.phion.com I like them because they come with a little booklet that explains how to read your results which leads me to Helen's question. Your first urine of the day will always be acidic because your body is getting rid of toxins overnight. You actually want the first urine to be slightly acidic. Your second and third and so on should become more alkaline. My most alkaline is usually at night. Green juices, lemons, and eating lots of greens has helped me. It took about 2-3 months for me. The booklet that comes with the ph strips is really helpful. Ideally you want to get to a place where are around 7.0. I've read that above that is too alkaline and becomes dangerous.
Lauren your blood pH is always the same. That does not flucuate as much. If it did you'd be dead. That is very different from urine or saliva pH. Your body is just coping to keep the rest of the body in homeostasis.
bueller, thank you for that explanation. I think I will try to test later in the day and see what that yields. I guess I need to be patient. Afterall i have only been doing this for a month. I'm a newbie at this all!
Bueller, I love the chart of foods on the second link. Exactly what I have been looking for. Once my period is over I will try testing my urine throughout the day to see what happens with it. This is great info!
