i recently acquired some green, powdered stevia. but i mixed it in some lemon water and i couldn't taste any difference? i'm curious as to what kind of stevia people buy and how much they use and how they mix it? any answers would be much appreciated!
I'm limited in the stores I can shop in so my stevia comes in packets and the brand name is Sweet Leaf Plus Stevia. Comes in a box. For me it is very sweet. Each packet equals 2 tsp. sugar so I usually use 1/2 packet unless I have a serious sweet tooth then I will use the whole packet. I use it it my tea, decaf. coffee, in my green smoothies if I don't have a banana to add for sweetness, etc. HTH.

I have never used green stevia (I have never seen it around here), but I think that it is the less processed version. I don't know how much it differs in its sweetness as compared to the white, powdered stevia that I use (also Sweet Leaf brand). The white stevia is really, really intensely sweet. Just a smidge will do (like less than 1/8 tsp... maybe 1/16 or so).
So far, I only use stevia in my cottage cheese-flax oil-fruit mixture. I toss in a whole packet of the granulated stuff (I think it's the Sweet Leaf others have mentioned). Makes the whole thing taste G-r-r-r-REAT! (Sorry, Tony. Love yer flakes, but I can't eat 'em anymore).
I usually use the stevia extract in powder form- the kind not mixed with anything else. It comes with this microscopic measuring spoon because all you need is the tiniest bit. Some of the powders, like the stuff in packets is mixed with maltodextrin and silica so it's not as concentrated.
Yesterday I bought this little tin with four little bottles of flavored liquid stevia. There's vanilla creme, chocolate rasberry, valencia orange, and lemon drop. It's pure stevia with natural flavors and grapefruit seed extract. I used the vanilla in my afternoon green smoothie and it was delish! Also added a few drops to mineral water. I love stevia!
