My Crazy Sexy Life

hi there, i am very very new to the website and learning how to get around etc. i do not have cancer that i know of. however have a mental illness as well as physical problems some due to medication some due to lifestyle and just life. the lastest thing that got me serious about this WOF, is horrible stomach problems triggered by life and meds. so right now, my bipolar meds are in change and i am very very tired and need the caffine fix, which makes me feel crappy. in the last few years i have gotten down my number of meds, and want to more, not all, just enough. anyway, i want off caffine badly. crap i just quit smoking too, hopefully that will stick. can anybody relate. i want to try incorporating raw foods into diet too. not everything at once... thanks. meme

You are awesome!!!! Quitting smoking is a HUGE accomplishment and you should be proud! Build on that momentum, but don't try too much at once or you will crash big time!! I can't give up the coffee either - it has to be one of the hardest ones. My advise: at least drink organic, fair trade, shade grown....whatever you can find that is the most natural & it will be better than Folgers! Try cutting back SLOWLY...try drinking one cup (like instead of 2 or 5..) try Yerba Mate "tea". I'm assuming that coffee is your caffeine fix? I know that a lot of psy. meds can cause strange side effects - my husband is on some and CRAVES sugar (or at least that's what he says!) Start slow - add raw stuff a little at a time, exercise, get Kris's DVD...so many pointers and you can replay them over & over! Most of all come here! You will not find more help, more support, or more love anywhere ;-) Good luck!

I agree with the Yerba Mate. I switched from coffee to Yerba Mate last December and haven't had a cup of coffee since. I have a cup every morning after I juice and every night after dinner. I just don't crave coffee anymore like I used to. I sweeten my tea with agave nectar (which I buy at Whole Foods). Now my coffee maker just sits there.

Me too! I just started drinking it about 4 years ago. Only 1 cup a day, in the morning to get "things" moving. You'de think it would be easy for me to quit. NOPE! And to make matters worse, the only way I can drink the cup of acid, is if I drown it in vanilla coffee-mate.

Ok take a deep breath kids, I got some news....#1: Don't TRY to quit, just quietly make a decision and form an intention to drink less, perhaps dilute it down with almond milk, use a smaller cup etc. ANYTHING you make forbidden then becomes the ONLY thing you crave.. the whole forbidden fruit deal..garden of eden stuff, very primal
#2 I listen to Deepak Chopra each week, last week his brother, who is a LIVER specialist actually said and I quote:
" new research shows 3 cups of regular coffee per day is actually GOOD for your liver." Guys, I am telling you, I even recorded it for my broinlaw who had hep C. Now, does he mean triple frapachinno full of crap drinks? No plain old cup a joe.
My weakness is tea, but I just use herbal or decaff and am fine. Caffiene makes me mental anyway, got to be very careful with it
Hope that helps.
love deb

Try as I might, coffee is a huge weakness - not only the for the caffeine, but the taste too, so decaf is pointless for me. I agree Deb, trying to quit and feeling guilty only makes it worse :( I drink alot of Yogi Tea, too and I love it! So, for all of the great changes I have made in my life, I still enjoy my cup o' joe...with almond milk and stevia now!

Meme, you are doing great - celebrate your successes and be proud of them. Baby steps girl...you'll get there!!

Wow Meme, you sure have a lot on your plate. I just gave up caffeine about 3 weeks ago and let me tell you, the first week was SHEER HELL. I should add that I made some other changes to my diet at the same time, so maybe it was a whole detox combination thing. But I didn't even drink that much, 2-3 cups a day. I was off work cos I just had surgery (recovery from that probably didn't help either) so at least I didn't have to cope with work as well. But it's hard, and it's scary how addictive it must be to get a reaction like that. Now I am starting to feel really good, and determined not to go back there. PS I have done this before, and did get to the stage where I could enjoy an occasional coffee when out with friends, but won't be doing that yet! You'd think I would have learnt the first time.

It may not sound like anything similar but a green veggie juice will give you an energy burst that doesnt wear off (unlike caffeine) and Its good for you and can actually be very tasty! It is one of the hard ones to let go of but many have done it and if many can you can too!

I've had a lot of success by mixing my own blend of regular and decaf. I just gradually added more and more decaf and now I'm fine with no caffeine at all.

Man, I quit smoking eight months ago. Don't know how I finally managed it, but I quit and that's been that. Got diagnosed with the prostate can*er three months ago, and so made more sweeping lifestyle changes, as far as diet and supplements is concerned. Now I'm like, "Mr. Health" himself, in a manner of speaking. Hell, I've even cut the coffee back quite a bit... but I still can't give it up completely. Damn, it's all I've got left in the "vice" department, except maybe rock 'n' roll.

Anyway, all the best with the caffeine thing... and well done with the ciggie quit. Keep that going, by all means.
