My Crazy Sexy Life

What food can we bring along on international flights?

Hello everyone,
I am happily getting ready to leave for France on July 8th to get my family love fix for the year and celebrate my grandpa's 90th!
I used to just buy a sandwich at the airport but I want to eat something healthier this year. Does anyone know what type of food they will let me take through custom? I know water or juices are not possible anymore.
Thanks,
Laetitia

I will also be on an international flight soon and I'm thinking I will take some dehydrated crackers, raw goat cheese, and raw cacao or baker's chocolate to snack on. My flight is not even as long as yours though so you will need enough to keep you going for a while. .

I think you should plan on still buying your food at the airport. Its really what you can bring through security and I think most food falls into the liquids categories.... I would try the NTSA's website for a list of prohibited foods. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibi.... I think travel will force us to eat non-organic. But have a wonderful time in France!

I did not think you could bring food except what is purchased after going through the check points. Could be wrong...but this past January I thought my son and I were in big trouble over an orange in San Juan at customs.

I think packaged food is okay. An orange could be carrying fruit flies or disease or whatever. But it has been a year since I flew international so things could have changed.

You should be absolutely fine to bring your own sandwich if you wish. To pass through US airport security, as aforementioned, you need to be mindful of the amount of liquids you bring in (but anything purchased after security is ok). To get through French customs, policy attached here:
http://ambafrance-us.org/spip.php?article788 You'll eat it on board before entering the country anyway, so you should have nothing to worry about!
Have a superb time in France and can I make a polite suggestion to make your holiday better? Forget any organic only, no sugar, raw and vegetarian diets! Do drink lots of red wine!

Lots of red wine is very important. It will cure all kinds of ills and make your trip a wonderful adventure!

I find that I can bring any food that is not liquid on to the flight, and if I were restricted to what they have in the airport, I'd have to stay home!!

It's a good point that you can't bring produce into a lot of countries, so you simply must finish your food before arrival.

Plus, as for liquids, amounts of 3 ozs are allowed (you know the rule? as many 3 oz -- or actually 100 ml -- bottles as can fit into a quart size ziploc bag) -- this is to let you bring teeny bottles of mouthwash and such but when I traveled with my grandson I brought him some tiny bottles of juice. Perfectly legal.

Call me slow but what if you brought what you would like to eat mindful of the regulations but what is the worst that could happen? they would just take it away from you? I would try to bring what you want and if you can't have it, you at least tried.

Thank you for all the great suggestions!
I am currently doing a week cleanse to get rid of the chemo toxins but I certainly plan on drinking wine over there!!!!

Sprouted tortilla wraps with avocado, sprouts, and parsley work for me when I travel. Never had a problem at security. I bring my juicer in a carry-on, thought which often gets me pulled off to the side. They're always curious about juicing! Bon voyage!
