About Me:: I am 42, mother of two, diagnosed with tonsil cancer March 2007.
Treatment completed June 2007.
Tonsil cancer is considered to be in remission, but I will be undergoing thyroidectomy in May for suspected thyroid cancer. The fun never ends!
Still trying to make sense of this.

Surgical drains should be illegal.

I was released from the hospital this afternoon. My calcium levels have been stablized by oral megadoses 4 times a day, and the surgical drain was removed. I have one thing to say about that: SURGICAL DRAINS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. I was visited this morning by reidents, interns, and a doctor. After asking me how I felt, the Doc asked if I had had my pain meds yet. I was confused because I wasn't on pain meds, and he said he was going to get me some. Surgery and do I have another cancer??

I went to Boston on May 9th for my thyroid surgery. I was feeling pretty good about it--not nervous at all. The surgery took about 3 1/2 hours, and according to the surgeon was routine and uneventful. There was no evidence of disease process outside of the thyroid itself, but the final pathology report will reveal any malignancy. After a total thyroidectomy, a minimum stay of 24 hours at the hospital is required. But of course--I have to be Special Needs! The first 24 hours post-op were miserabl… Continue

Try if you can to go to the website about Randy Baker, MD. He is the one I've been telling you about who works with people who have just had it to the max with everyone. He is a fantastic man and I saw him and his Physicians Assistant: Cindy Quattro for 3 years. They are a great team. I know that they are on the opposite coast from you...but on their website, you can write to them and email them questions that you have about how you are being treated. I'm sure you've really had it up to here with everything and I'm sorry you haven't been online. I know how it is to suffer and be in pain and I know how it is to want to be alone and just in your own environment and just be with the ones you love the most. I think there is alot to be learned from the butterflies. They were once a catapillar and just crawling on the ground. Then, they themselves create something that was never there before, a Crysalis, and hang from a teeny tiny little button they create and weave themselves into a cocoon and through the mysteries of life, they melt themselves down into a butterfly....it is a great all time mystery. I think this is most probably your time to melt into who you want to be and become and be with those whom you love and respect. It is becoming more common to have this especially for those who have been ill or immuno-suppressed. I think the point raised on the boards was valid, bio-feed back etc works, but I wanted to raise awareness that there are so many other things to investigate on the physical side. I went for four years before I found someone to take me seriously and that all this was not "all in your head"! I detest that mindset. I recognize it is a valid one and emotions can be a trigger, but that is not the only solution as we all seem to agree with.
