Hope things are going well for you! I wanted to check in with you and let you know things are going way better than I could ever have imagined them to go. I am going for my 4th treatment tomorrow and will have only two more after that! I just now realized that you had your diagnosis on my birthday and I actually had my surgery on 5/28 and got out of the hospital on my 33rd birthday 5/29! Let me know how you are doing!
Thinking of you,
Jennice
I had no side effects with the Tamoxifen whatsoever. I just worry about the hidden dangers, but at this point I need to buy some time.
I'm looking into some alternative therapies, but haven't made a decision yet as to exactly what I'm going to do.
I've been in Coral Springs for about 14 yrs now. I'm originally from NY. What made you move to Louisiana?
The first time I was diagnosed I had a lumpectomy, radiation, and a 5 yr course of Tamoxifen. When I was diagnosed with the recurrence, I had a mastectomy and took Tamoxifen for a couple of months. I was doing an alternative protocol until just recently, which seemed to be working for a while, but isn't any longer. Now I've gone back on Tamoxifen and looking into other treatment options.
What type of treatment are you undertaking?

I was given that option also - but even with the surgery first my doc wanted me on chemo. I went with my second opinion doc and decided chemo first, then surgery. How long did it take you to heal after you had the breast taken off? .Are you habndling the reconstruction OK? Any side effects?
How are you doing? I was diadnosed with breast cancer in July. I started my 18 weeks of chemo on August 15th. One week of TCH, followed by 2 weeks of Herceptin. The docs wanted to shrink the tumor first before surgery. Not sure if I want to get the lumpectomy or take the whole breast. I never want to have to go through this again - I was OK with chemo, no side effects, until I lost my hair. Now the reality really sets in when I see myself in the mirror. How is your treament going?

After a lot of research and praying I am going to take the alternative path of supplements, diet change and exercise. If the cancer comes back I will be in a healthier state to do chemo. The second oncologist is the doctor I chose to work with. She is fine with my decision but wants to see me every three monthes to moniter my tumor markers. I also decided to not take Tamoxifen. Instead I started taking Dim.
I could not find the thread where you discussed your situation. Were you also ER/PR Positve? If you would like to talk personally feel free to call me @ 830-214-0999. I am home on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am thinking of starting a Alternative Treatment group on the website. I know these decisions are dificult and I am sure you will make the right decision for you. I have some family members that do not agree with my decision but ultimately it is my decision alone. I know I made the right decision for me.
Sending you Love and Positivity,
Tona
Congrats on not having to do chemo. I am assuming that the tumor was ER/PR positive. Was it Her 2 neu positive or negative? I was really in a dilemma as to whether or not to do chemo, too. The tumor that I had was ER/PR negative, but Her-2-neu positive. However, it was only 2mm in size and my lymph nodes and PET were negative. Ultimately, after consulting with many, many oncologists (most of whom said no chemo), I did decide to do chemo. I just felt that I was young and healthy and could tolerate it. I knew that the likelihood of it coming back were very, very small. However, if it did come back, it could be aggressive (given the her-2-neu positivity). So, I just wanted to be super careful about it not coming back.
I had my second round of chemo last week and I feel fine. I am tolerating it quite well. Don't get me wrong, I will throw a big party when I am finished with the whole thing, but it really hasn't been as bad as I thought it could be.
There was a recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. It looked at around 1500 women who were diagnosed with breast cancer. In a nutshell, it found that women who exercised 6 days a week AND ate 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day had a 50% improval in their long term survival. I was sooooo excited when I found that study. Turns out that diet and exercise improve your survival more than chemo! I can definitely do that! I love fruits and veggies and exercise feels sooo good.
Good luck to you.
God Bless,
Halla
