The plastic surgeon is the one who found them along the rib cage. He was looking for a blood vessel to tie into the transplanted tissue. When he found one node, he started looking and found another and then looked every where he could, but didn't find any more so hopefully that was all there was to find!
The boys were stressed initially, but they followed my husbands lead and took the optimistic road. Sometimes it is difficult dealing with them because they say "you are fine - its going to be alright" and they just don't know that. They are trying their best to be helpful so I can't blame them.
So your son is in Chicago for the entire summer? How old is he now? Chicago is a neat town so I am sure he will stay busy along time getting to know it.
Talk soon!
We had a 2nd radiologist review the films along with an oncologist and the oncologist called and said it was definitely cancr and I had to start treatment immediately. The next day my husband canceled a business trip, pulled some strings, and got me in to Northwestern to see a premier pulmonologist who said it "looks like cancr, but might not be".
The doc scheduled a bronch the following week, punctured my lung in the procedure, and I wound up in the hospital 3 days. All the tests came back negative (talk about taking years off my life - there were 3 tests we were waiting on and by the time I was released from the hospital only one result was back - it took several more days for the others). So then the doc put me on an antibiotic and gave me a CT 2 weeks later, two of the longest weeks of my life I might add, and the CT showed the nodules were gone. It was all a false alarm.
I know exactly what you were going through and I thank God every day that it turned out the right way and now I am thanking him that yours turned out the right way too!!!!
Contractors I can live with - doctors are another story! My husband knows some contractors so it should all go very well, very quickly, and hopefully we can afford to make it nice. I keep saying "why bother" and then I say "I want it nice". Perpetual see saw of emotions.
The boys are 12 and 11 and they don't mind hotels. They had never had roooms of their own until we bought the house last Fall and they really like having their own rooms so they aren't so excited about sharing a pull out sofa in a hotel right now. They'll survive.
I don't think I told you, but the oncologist I have been seeing the last two months actually informed me I wasn't 2A, like I was told a year ago, but that I was 3C because of the internal mammary lymph nodes. That has been a shock and knocked me for a new loop. Not that I wanted to be 2A, but it was alot better than being 3C!
Anyway, take care and we'll chat soon.

I'm in a research study that does AC weekly for 12 weeks with daily oral cytoxan. After the AC I will do Abraxane weekly for 12 weeks. I don't know how it's different than what you did, but it's just how the study was written.
2 clean years is great. I pray you stay that way. They say with the HER 2 that the first 2 years are the highest with recurrence so you are moving beyond that now!!
My friend Elizabeth on here is going in for a PET scan Thursday. I dread getting my next one and mine is coming up soon too. Please say a prayer for her.
They just finished removing all the drying equipment so we have met with contractors and are waiting for insurance to let us know what they are covering. Hotel living is OK, but I will be really sick of it a month from now. Hopefully it doesn't take the contractor longer than that to finish the repairs....
I think I will try this group and see what happens. I like animals more than people, but when I have talked with people it has made me feel better so maybe it will be good.
I am coming up on a year with no sign of cancer - I can't remember if you told me or not, but how long has it been for you?
but this is an experience of a life time !! not happy about it but now in the long run ill be a better person in the end
The treatment went fine. Come to find out my new oncologist just lost her husband to cancr and her 23 year old daughter was just diagnosed. She is so kind and caring and I don't see how she is holding it together. I am praying for her now more than myself! Also, the nurse who gives the Herceptin - I just found out today she had breast cancr and she is in a support group near my house so I think I will go because she said she hated the idea, but once she went she won't miss it. This website is the closest thing I have come to a support group, but maybe it is time to go. Did you or do you go to a support group?
We got back safe and sound. However, when we got home and went inside we found our toilet had overflowed while we were gone and ruined our kitchen and some other stuff. Now we are in a hotel for a few weeks until it all gets cleaned up. Tomorrow we are at Northwestern for my 2nd Herceptin treatment which should go fine. Take care!
