About Me:: I'll be honest, this is mostly just a cut/paste from my myspace profile with a few changes. I tend to be pretty active and seem to be doing more and more over the course of the last few years. The cancer dx and tx have not stopped that trend. If it is nice out, I will probably be either putting miles on the Harley or out playing with the dogs. I run a few miles 3-4 times a week and work out almost daily since it helps prevent cancer reoccurance (or at that is what I am told). I try to eat healthy and luckily prefer fish to steak. However, I like the occasional good red wine or single malt. Trying to find that balance between living and existing. I'm also a closet geek with degrees in chem, math and physics.
The cancer story is melanoma. Pretty much surprised me as the stitches I got from my mole were the first stitches I have ever gotten in my life, even after 12 years of rugby. It was clark 5/barstow 8. Thanksgiving morning a noticed a bump on my thigh (close to the groin area). Turned out to be a malignant lymph node. They took it and 8 others our from around it. Bad news was that it got there, good news is that only the one was positive. Good news, they took my off the interferon so I am starting to feel better. Bad news, that was the only approved treatment and there are no clinical trials I qualify for since there is no evidence of disease. Good news, my oncologist, surgeon and dermatologist are cautiously optomistic about the long term prognosis due to the other nodes testing negative, my age, diet and general health. I hope they are right. The PET scan results from March 17th were negative. Next one in June in 93 days....not that I'm counting. Update....next scan is June 17th at 2:00 pm....46 days and counting.
