About Me:: I'm a mom of two youngsters ages 9 and 12, a journalist, teacher and a Stage III breast cancer survivor--diagnosed in October 07. I recently finished chemotherapy and will be undergoing a mastectomy followed by radiation. When I'm not scared shitless I enjoy writing, reading, cooking, walking along the shores of Lake Michigan and playing with my kids.

At 10:38pm on March 26, 2008, Whitefeather said…: Hi Genie--Thanks for checking in. I've been meaning to post an update for everyone but I've been busy with work. I guess, that should tell you I'm doing OK! The surgery went smoothly and I was home the next day. Not much pain but the following week it hit me in the form of soreness and plain exhaustion. Emotionally, I'm doing better than I thought I would be. I guess hearing the words "cancer free" wiped out any sorrow I had over losing my breast! Maybe it will catch up with me later. Btw, thank you so much for your soothing visualization an that beautiful photo. That was the last image I saw before signing off and heading to the hospital and it stayed with me.

While you are in pre-op, getting the IV and all that, close your eyes and feel yourself walking along the shore of Lake Michigan. I see it as a roaring lake, late fall, chunks of ice in tall, tall waves. The lake in this state can be very soothing when one's being is similarly disturbed.

Later, the lake will be calm and gorgeous, and you and your kids will be at the beach. You'll be all done with poison, cut, and burn, and you'll be healthy and strong and enjoying your family.

That day will come!
