Hi everyone!
I'm senior in college and an 18 year leukemia survivor! I was diagnosed in 1990 at age 5 and I'm 23 now. It took me a while before I felt beautiful and sexy; it probably wasn't until this past summer. I've always loved my scars but not really my body and because I've never had a boyfriend (I still don't) I never thought I could be beautiful for anyone. I now know that I have to think of myself as beautiful and sexy before anyone thinks I'm beautiful and sexy. I love to draw and paint! Its the best form of relaxtion I think. I also love reading, writing, American Sign Language, Relay For Life! (Any event where I can show off my true Survivor colors). Hanging out with my friends doing random things like skipping around blowing bubbles and going to The Disney Store just to play with stuffed animals. I'm not sure what I want to do when I graduate next year. I want to go to grad school but I'm taking a year or two years off before I do. I'm sure what ever I end doing, it will have something to do with cancer. Cancer does not define me but I know if I didn't have it I wouldn't be me.

Just wanted to say thank you for your comment about my involvement with Hole in the Wall camps. It means a lot to me to hear from someone who actually went to camp and who expreineced it. Thank you so much!
My friend Michael just finished his cycling trip throughout the southern USA and managed to raise over 3300 for Team HitW. He's also doing the Walt Disney Half-Marathon and will continue to raise money there.
O btw, I almost named my first born, Sarah, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the name, especially spelled the way yours is (smile) The only reason my daughter was not named Sarah is because the moment I laid eyes on her, she just looked like an "Ilana" and so it STUCK.......
Hey Sarah, What A REMARKABLE young Woman you are(SMILE).... I am sooooooooo happy to hear that you considered yourself "Beautiful & Sexy" (wink) Hell........ It wasen't until my late 30's Early 40's that I did myself...
I noticed that you recently turned 23, Well HAPPY BE-LATED BIRTHDAY LIBERAN (wink) My daughter will be 20 on Sunday, the 19th...
It's AMAZING what can be done & how one thinks in the Face Of Advercity right?
You have ALOT of things to look forward to and although you may Not Have Had A boyfriend until Now, You are so fortunate to know Who You Are & therefore you will make smart choices & decisions....going forward......
Happy Birthday Sarah! You are a beautiful girl inside and out. Don't worry about finding a boyfriend, they always seem to appear when you are not looking. You are doing all the right things - living your life and doing what you love. good luck with everything.

Happy birthday, girl! And best of luck on your date. Just look at it as a way to get to know someone. Not having to worry about when to pull out the cancer card definately removes some pressure. Just think of it as hanging out but with just one person. Be yourself and all will work out for the best. Remember we all think you're great. Enjoy yourself and then share all the juicy details! We are a slightly gossipy bunch!
Happy Birthday Sarah! I just looked at your pictures, you are beautiful young woman, smart and witty and full of life; any man would be lucky to have a lady like you in his life!
Hi Sarah,
It is so nice to see a long term leukemia survivor. My daughter was diagnosed when she was 12. She is now 15 and off treatment. She loves random things too, reading, playing piano and skipping and blowing bubbles, laughing and giggling with her friends. This adventure definitely gives you a new outlook on life, simple is good.
Welcome, I also had leukemia. I had AML twice. First in 2006 and then again in 2007 which led to a stem-cell transplant a year ago and so far I'm still cancer free. I've walked in the Light the Night walk twice with my posse and it's just amazing being that white balloon (blood cell) amongst all of the red. We walk around a lake and the lights reflect back into the water so it is amazingly surreal. I also walked in my first Relay this past May and bawled my eyes out during the survivor's walk and caregiver's walk. It's incredible to be cheered on by complete strangers. Embracing your experiences makes you a beautiful person. Every experience defines us as individuals. I embraced being bald - there are bald shots of me up all around the house because that's me. No way to hide what's there when you can't hide it or distract from it with hair. I'm not embracing the effects of the prednisone but...
Glad you're here and it is SOOOOO encouraging to hear from a long term survivor. Great to "meet" you!
Hi Sarah, I just read your post about Paul Newman and I didn't know about the camp. It sounds like it was a really important and supportive part of your youth! That is very cool.
I enjoy skipping, dancing down public side walks and swinging on swings as high as I can. I hope you never loose the joy as you grow older. We all need to play, no what our age and I see too many people who just won't. What a shame.
