Hi Anne, Just wanted to say hello and see how your garden is coming. It think I may replace the peas with some cucumbers so it might work out after all. They may take over the lettuce but since lettuce likes the weather a little colder, they may be done before the cukes grow big. It's fun experimenting. Happy gardening!

Hey Anne! Just wanted to say hi & let you know that a lot of the time when I'm shopping for food, I think of you, especially when something is a great deal or really expensive! This weekend I got 6 honker cuccumbers at Safeway for 2 for $1...non-organic, but same as they sell at WF for $1.49 each! Also went to a chinese market a good friend told me about & have been able to get young thai coconuts for $0.99 each vs. $1.99 each at WF. Anyways, I hope your shopping trips are going better & you're havin a fab weekend! Take care.

Anne, Have your dad check out the prostate cancer treatments more throughly.....all that poking and proding can exacerbate the situation. At least that's what I have heard...on several occasions.....can actually make matters worse. Every person is different, get the facts, how fast is the psa spiking, etc.

As you mentioned...it can be very slow growing and many alternative folks would say just leave it alone. Good luck to you dad.

Hi Anne, I read your post comment about pea shoots and I have a question. How do you know when they are done producing peas? This is the first time we've planted peas and one shoot is growing tall with no flowers or peas and all the others are still really small but with some flowers/peas. Also, we had a raccoon digging up our sunflower shoots last year and I put a little fence around them and put some pine sol on the concrete wall (not where it would get into the dirt) because I read that they hate the smell of coyote urine and pine sol. Well I didn't have either (I never use pine sol) but I figured out of the two, pine sol was easier to get! I had to leave for 2 weeks and since I wouldn't be there to monitor, I was desperate. It worked. The sunflowers were there when we got back.

I loved your comments. Amen Siste. It is true it can get expensive. But I do the best I can and consider it as an investment. If I don't have to pay for medicine and expensive treatments,,, I consider the expenses to be even, with the difference of me staying healthy. But moderation is a good thing.
Where in Northern CA are you, I am in San Jose.

I laughed out loud when I read your comment about pond water. Oh, the things we are willing to do...

The stuff I use is a powder that you mix with water. It's Doctors First brand and I found it at site called Nokomis Nutrition for 3 bottles for $99. Each bottle has 30 servings. So it's not too expensive. And it actually tastes pretty good. It has a kind of minty flavor and I think it's sweetened a bit with Stevia.
