Profile Information

About Me:
professional photographer and owner of oral history transcription firm. in september 2008, one week before my annual mammogram, i felt a sore spot in my breast. then followed three mammograms, an ultrasound, MRI, and ultrasound-guided core-needle biopsy which indicated an 8-millimeter breast tumor 1 millimeter from the chest wall. ER-, PR- HER2-. Grade 3, T1c tumor. had double mastectomy (no reconstruction - have always wanted a flat chest!) and sentinel lymph node biopsy on november 20th. two sentinel nodes were removed - both negative. i will meet with oncologists the first week of december to discuss treatment. i've been blogging my experience: my "love, cancer, etc." blog and on my flickr site.

my double mastectomy was november 20, 2008. it was the most amazing experience. not one single scary or horrible thing i heard about happened to me. the isotope injection for the sentinel node biopsy was nothing like i had heard on one of the boards here. i received four separate injections instead of one; maybe that's why it wasn't so bad. i had a little back pain after surgery, but that was all. i was home within 24 hours. had no swelling, very little bruising, and i needed the drains for only 4 days. the doctor said that's because i was thin, in good shape, a vegetarian, and active before surgery. i'm so grateful. i love my flat chest! six days after surgery, i could drive, go to work, do everything i did before. my dr removed only 2 lymph nodes, which were both negative, so i have full range of motion of both arms. i am so amazed at how stress-free and easy this surgery was. it feels like a dream i had, not a real experience. my two grown sons took care of me, and now my house is quiet again, i'm back to my regular life - with no bras! i have always wanted a flat chest - i love my new body! i will meet with my oncologists the first week of december 2008 to discuss radiation and chemo. there are several women i've met on the CSC boards who helped me so much through this process, and i am so grateful for them and thankful for kris carr for creating this website. thank you, everyone here at crazy sexy cancer. xoxox

You look amazing! And your courage and spirit blow me away! I am having a double mastectomy on Dec. 10th. I have chosen to have reconstruction. I was diagnosed three years ago and I am blessed to be in remission but I am BRACA1 positive. I initially had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation and I needed some time to process things and heal. I am SO HAPPY to hear that everything went well and that you had little discomfort. I am thin and active and I did well with the lumpectomy and chemo so I am hoping I have the same luck with this procedure. I truly believe that a healthy body, mind and spirit can work wonders! Thank you for sharing! You are a true inspiration and although we don't know each other you are guiding me on this part of my journey. Love and light!

That is great!

Hey, if you or your friend can share anything about her tattooing, I would greatly appreciate it! Where? Was it 3D? Did she feel it? Did she also do the nipple thing? (I have pretty much decided against it totally, but still appreciate feeback). Any suggestions pre-procedure? Etc, Etc.

You are amazing darling.....BTW, do you mind if I ask what your first name is?

Big Hugs, Tina

You are one of the bravest people I've come across on here or in general for that matter. It will affect others in ways that you will never realize. Miraculous.

You go girl!! What about nipples? I haven't had mine done yet (yes, still a blank "face"), but am thinking of just getting the tattoos done...they say the 3D ones look great!!

You are fabulous sweetie and I am so glad your journey is smooth, smooth sailing! You had asked about my stats, so here they are:

Diagnosed 3/15/07
L Breast-IDC, 2cm
SNB Clear
ER/PR both 3+, HER2 -
Bil Mastectomy 3/28/07 w/tissue expanders
Implant surgery 8/28/2007
Revision R lateral 2/13/2008
Still waiting for nipple "decision" (my me)

I would definitely inquire about the Oncotype DX test to determine the aggressive of your cancer (only used for BC). It is a tool that you and the onc use to determine if chemo would be beneficial or harmful to you. Did you say you were triple negative? IF so, then this test would not be applicable, but I would inquire about any "new" tests available anyway. This was originally not covered by insurance and was expensive, but it was soooo worth it. There is some information on it on a couple link you can find on my blog (right had margin btw the "Grow Organics" pic and the "Education not Medication" pic!)

Are you going to do reconstruction?

Happy Holiday and so glad to hear all was and is good!
Big Love, Tina
