About Me:
I am married and have 3 children, all teens, and just to make it even more interesting we have taken in a foreign exchange student for the year. I love reading, writing, gardening, cooking, watching movies, learning new arts and crafts, the color sage green, finding new clothes at Salvation Army, jazz and blues music, the ocean, letter boxing, bon fires in my backyard fire pit that I built, helping people, playing scrabble, pink roses, and things that sparkle.

During a regular gall bladder removal surgery this summer, my doctor discovered an appendix carcinoid.. A rare type of slow growing cancer, like 1 to 200,000. She removed the tumor and did a bunch of tests and scans to see if there were any more tumors. I had surgery in October and am currently free and clear of any further cancer cells. I know I am blessed to have this opportunity to be made aware of my health issues and that God has a plan for my life. I know that I need to rearrange my life and figure out what it is that I am supposed to be doing on my journey through here. I am focusing on my physical health, emotional, as well as my spiritual health as I begin this new chapter in life, perhaps more so than I have done with any other challenge that I have faced before.

I get by with a little help from my friends

Thank you so much for all of your words of encouragement and wisdom. I made an announcement at dinner, (the kids joked that I was going to have another baby) tonight that even though I am putting on my make up and getting dressed it does not mean that I am 100%. Everyone still needs to help me out. They all agreed, and I feel so much better. Thanks again!

I am throwing a Pity Party, BYOB

So I am out of the woods as far as the oncologist and the surgeon have determined. I should be happy and I am. I am incredibly frustrated though with how tired I still get, how much pain I am still in after I eat ANYTHING, and how tender my stomach muscles still seem. Just because i am wearing my make up and working to get dressed everyday, doesn't mean that I am 100%, I am simply faking it until I make it, but my family seems to think that make up means I am well and ready to function at full s… Continue

Reconstrutive surgery isn't all it's cut out to be

Okay, so I am a week and some change out of surgery. I am coming to see how, although good for you, never the less, confined you are by maintaining the exercise, healthy eating choices, sleeping, and prayerful attitude are mandatory. When I read Kris' book, she talks about how she feels chained to this life, even though she is determined not to let it control her, but her control it. The constant reminders of what you can and cannot eat, the importance of getting exercise and proper amount of sl… Continue

Home again, Home again, not jiggity jog

The surgeon sent me home last night after I brought up the fact that i was concerned about my blood pressure being high continuously after the surgery. She let me know that she does not do high blood pressure medication (she probably doesn't scrub toilets either) and thought that maybe my blood pressure would go down after I was released from the hospital. So, within half an hour, out came my port, and my discharge papers and she was essentially booting me out the door. No special diet restricti… Continue

Hi Cindy!
That's funny, I can't believe we didn't realize that. What group were you working with?

Hi Cindy, Bren mentioned that you might need some help with building a music player for your page. Just right click on my player and open the file in a new window. Then just register and start following the directions for building your playlist. Make sure you listen to each song all the way through, some may be a live version and have clapping or something you don't want. If you have any questions just drop me a comment. Welcome to our healing garden. Much love to you~Lea

Hi Cindy,

No I'm afraid i am not that Bernadette.

Where I come from, Ireland, the name is a very common one amoung the older generation, in honour of St. Bernadette the french catholic saint,. Being born to a very religious Irish mother, we were all named after all the well known saints, sort of the Irish version of being named after famous hollywood stars :)

Hope you are having a good day.

oh babe, I am an expet HTML specialist and built mine custom...way too hard..if you want an easy one to copy and build...go to Lori Shield's page..find her under the Member's tab...find her machine..go to make playlist...make an account...make your playlist by artist or song..warning..listen to the whole song as they gather from U-tube and such and you don't want any surprises...then when done..save it and get the "embed code or html code". Copy that and bring it back to your page here. In the center of your page hit the "edit button" and place it where you want it...either on top of your text "about you" or after...rememebering to add a space or two". It will change every time you open the "edit" on CSL's site...so everytime you update your music or add pics you will have to re-align stuff...good luck and be creative..I custom build mine as I am a recording artist and have some of my stuff and my friends private recordings uploaded...my page is my personal virtual vision board. Everything is personal...my background, I made...I was a VP at Nortel Networks so am a bit more advanced than most here..will be glad to lend you a hand....love ya...let me know if you need help love...let me know when you get done..and I can't wait to here your muzic of your heart...rock on cowgirl! Heartprints! Bren

Are they insane...and the place we love to go to for chutting down trees is more because of our 6-yr draought and forest fires...but we don't make the nat'l news like CA....sigh...love ya sis...keeping it real here in the forum...this wood elf is like Dr. Phil...ha ha...muahs and huggies!

Hi Cincy, thanks for your nice message. I hope you and your family are doing okay these days. It's very important to have family close to us when we go through this. I am guilty of not being patient and understanding enough to my mother who came from Korea to stay with me while I go through this. The thing is that she won't know what it's like for me to go through this now, and at the same time, I won't know what it's like to have my daughter (if I have any) going through this. Anyway, I'm glad to see your positive attitude. We all can use a lot of it, right? Hope you had a great weekend. :)

Hi Cindy,
It's so nice to meet you and I'm glad both you and your daughter are doing well. If she ever needs advice I'd be happy to talk with her. I remeber at her age I was very confused about my Survivor idenity . I had maybe two friends in public school and I wouldn't have more friends until I got to a school for kids with learning disabilities in 7th grade. The chemo left me with three learning disabilities and fine motor dysfunction. I have scars on my right leg, neck and right breast. When I turned 17 I and I finished taking a shower I saw my scars in the mirror and I thought "huh, my scars are pretty sexy" and from then on I loved my scars and I finally accepted myself as a Cancer Survivor. I hope you're feeling well,
Sarah
