At 4:52am on July 19, 2008, myrtle said…: That sounds like a great trip, what an amazing assortment of owls, sounds like a special place - I watched the little owls when i could see them, just as it was getting dark (which were only marginally smaller than the the adults, for a couple of days, they seem to have left already, or maybe they already look like the adults which have calmed right down and are back to roosting ..
I will eventually get around to researching them online, to confirm their habits - best wishes back to you!

I am just back from leading a 12 day field course for young birders (ages 14-18) in southeastern Arizona and we saw lots of different kinds of owls on the trip--spotted, elf, western screech owl, whiskered screech owl, barn owl, and the obligatory great horned owl. Owls everywhere! Hope you are doing well!

Thanks for the comment! Yes, that is an adult femal Flammulated Owl that I am holding (I am a bird biologist by trade). Your apartment on the coast of Spain sounds amazingly beautiful! I have never been to Europe but hope to get there some day, and Spain will be one of my first stops! I am also pretty new to this group but I have to agree--it is the best, most supportive, inspiring bunch of people on the Internet! Great to meet you, and welcome!
