I am one of those who's kids came out terrific and I have not been able to mees them up yet! My husband is on his third tour in Iraq- they like to keep calling the ones who have "experience", I received my diagnosis while he was away, and he will not be able to return for at least 6 months. I am a member of PETA and animal rights activist in all things, I am an amateur photographer, and every now and then someone wants to buy one for some odd reason, Currently, I am in the middle of broadcasting my treatment to the great state of Arkansas in order to be an advocate for the upcoming Race for the Cure. This is nerve-racking but hopefully will help someone, and I know that I cannot be more nervous myself. Vegetarian, nature lover, and oh yeah- recently diagnosed, 4th generation breast cancer lottery winner.

“Don’t Go There ‘Til You Get There”.

“Don’t Go There ‘Til You Get There”. What a load of crap. My whole life has been spent worrying about what might happen. So I am reading this very odd book- this book that seems to have been left for me. I cannot escape it. Four times it has been left. I have found it four times, in mysterious places, when no one knows where it came from. To me that means pick up the damn thing and see what’s in it. Creepy. Anyway, this silly message that is against what I tend to practice is in the book. I TRY…

What Is Beauty?

I have to wonder if sometimes things like cancer or war or other types of devastation are caused so we can see true beauty. Or at least see true beauty in others. Don't get me wrong- I am in no way saying that I am so beautiful, but sometimes an outsider can look inside us and see past our walls and be inspired. In the past three months I have learned more than perhaps my whole life could have taught me, but maybe this was one of the biggest lessons. I began thinking about the meaning of beauty…

Take My Medicine

Take my medicine. That’s what they keep telling me to do. The doctors and researchers keep coming up with new and different ways to cure us for all kinds of terrible illnesses. I think I probably have 12 different prescriptions lined up on my bathroom counter and then some more in the kitchen, all waiting for the perfect time of day, or for the alarm to go off to remind me to take them. I even have some more in the baggie in my purse in case I am not at home at the right time. This last round o…

My Alter-Ego-"CancerGirl"

I AM SuperWoman, or so it seems. When my honey left the last time I shattered and we had a hard time when he got back. When he found out he had to go again this time we were both afraid. Not just for the war and all that entails, but for US. The emotional drama that separation brings is enough to drive anyone apart. Very few of the couples in his unit are still together from the last deployment, and we are holding on. I made my list of things to keep me busy, got my army of friends for support a…

The Big 4-0

Next week I will be 40. The BIG 4-0. Today was a crazy, thoughtful day. On Friday I watched my oldest one graduate from high school, we discussed her scholarships (music major- oh I am SO proud) and I had a series of "Mom" moments. "Mom" moments. You know what they are. They are the lovely feelings pride and sadness that come over you when you see your beautiful child do something wonderful that you have taught them to do, and they actually do it without your help. My 18-year old girl, standing…

I love it too!!
I thought it was either in FL (lived there for 25 years) or the islands.

I gave another member your name to contact as her husband is overseas too...her name is Bri (or perhaps Brianna...). I hope she finds you!

Take care,
Tina

Allie, Of course I do not know what you are going through, and I have not been through it. I worried night and day when my son was over there (USMC) He was there for the 1st 3 years - you are right they send the experienced back again and again. He got to come home for 1 month once. Anyway, that was then and now is now. Nothing I can do but to continue to keep your husband in my thoughts, and you also - you are on the 2nd front. At times it will almost get to you, and then you get the call from him or mine sent emails.
Sounds as if you have a wonderful husband and 3 great girls.
God bless & keep you,
Rick in Austin

Thanks Allie!
I know my results are going to be perfect!
Thanks for your support.....and congratulations on your daughter's HS graduation this past Friday! My oldest daughter graduates June 27th. It is exciting....and these moments get imprinted in their memory forever...so meaningful. So meaningful for us to be there with them...for them to smile and wink at...or in my daughter's case roll her eyes & scowl at :-)
I'll let you know that my scans are clean as soon as I know.

Hi Allie...
Hello....Hope you are well today....I read some of your blog entries & having to miss the love of your life...and fear for his life every day while fighting for your own is all just too much. You already know this.
It is so cool that your daughter's school gave you such a huge show of support! I hope that it stays with you when you need it most.
I'm so glad to hear that the tumor shrank right away. And the hair is out! It's done & you aren't waiting for it to happen. I hope that you take lots of pictures of yourself this way. I now wish I had taken more...as sick as I looked...I really would like to have that now.
Anyhoooow.....I hope you feel well & enjoy the week. I have my PET/CT and eccocardiogram all tomorrow. I will wear sweats to bed & then roll out & straight into teh car at 6:30 tomorrow morning. I don't care what I look like...and can't have any metal on. I'll have my tests & hopefully be home by 2:00. Then I will eat, eat, eat. My diet is restricted pre-test today. I will rest and eat after my appt.s I will be SOOOOOOOOO glad when the tests have been done. I am supposed to have chemo on Tues., but I will call my onc. tomorrow & ask if we should wait until PET results....I may be able to stop the chemo when results are good! I will assk to postpone the appt. until we have results.
You've been on my mind...talk to you soon...love, Jenny/sweetlife

hey allie,
so happy you are in a good place today. i think my hair starting coming out when i pulled on it at about the 14th day after my first chemo. then i cut it off really short - but honestly, if i'd just not touched it or washed it, it may have lasted a few more days. it was almost a relief when it finally went, because anticipating it was worse than it happening! my kids and parents made a party of cutting it off, then my husband and my best friend shaved it for me. having the kids be part of it took the shock out of it - they handled it great. you are a warrior to go through this with your husband in iraq and three kids. i admire you!
feel good,
marla

hi allie, you are not a whiner and this is not the time to be tough. you are totally allowed to fall apart right now. i noticed you have a daughter in elementary school - my kid's school has a "care" program, where other families offer to cook, shop, carpool, etc. for families in need. you should put a call into the principal, or ask another parent at school to try and put together a meal schedule for you and your girls.
i hope today is a better day for you.
