Iove yard sales and going to flea markets. I have this amazing boyfriend. I was about to move in with my boyfriend. I was about to start looking for a great job at BROWN U. Several weeks ago I felt a lump on my right breast. I went to my Dr and he told that he was going to set up apt for a momgram. On 8-8-08 I had a mamogram, ultrasound, and biopsy done. On 8-18-08 I went to my DR TO get my test results. He told my I have breast cancer. I was in total shock. I am only 36 AND I have no family history. So My moving is on hold. Sept 2 i will have a mri done. I will have to be patient and wait to find out my results on my test.

I know what you mean, Christmas would be a hard time to go through this. I seemed to hit a few holidays during my treatment, not alot of fun. You will make it through this. And yes, I did have a port (PICC line) in, made the chemo go easier but the weekly dressing changes and flushes just annoyed me, but the alternative would have been worse. I also had 2 heart scans. I have to admit that I did not do very well the first time, I tend to panic when I have to go and get these kinds of things done. And being shot up with radioactive crap did not make me feel all that confident. I became a real fan of Ativan, sure helped me remain calm and deal with things better. I am happy to hear that you have a great boyfriend, that will make things alot easier on you. I am in a 6 week support group and the one lady in the group had her boyfriend with her at the beginning, he even bought a wig for her, and then he up and left. What a shitty time for someone to do that. I am glad he will be with you to support you.

Hi Julie,

I know what you mean about being sad / scared about the chemo. I was also terrified, I mean who really wants to have chemo?? I can tell you that it is not as bad as the stigma it has. I was very surprised while going through it, the emotional stuff was harder than the chemo itself....weird. I also had 6 rounds and I had 25 rads with 5 boosts and now I am on Tamoxifen for 5 years as my tumor was estrogen positive.

I know you are scared and there is not much to say that will take that away (I know from experience) but try to find a few things that bring you comfort and have them near during chemo. I was pretty neurotic before chemo started and found it absolutely necessary to have pictures of me and my boys done so that just in case the unthinkable happened, they would always have pics of us looking like we did before this nightmare started. Charles and his boys also had pics with us and I kept several of them out and on my bedside table to look at everyday. It brought me comfort to see my men who have been supporting me and taking care of me, looking so happy in the pictures. There are other things too, but I am sure you will find some great ones of your own.

Glad to hear you had your surgery, I hope all went well with it. Not alot of fun but good to get it over and done with as the waiting can really get to you.
take care, Jeni

Hey Julie, how are you doing? Have you had surgery yet? The shock of diagnosis takes a while to wear off but how are you fairing with all the craziness that comes with diagnosis? Its a scary time but I know you will pull through. I never thought I could do it but like you I have an amzing boyfriend who kept on encouraging me and telling me how proud he was of me and how strong I was. Its nice having someone to believe in you that you can get through this and even nicer to have people on here who know what you are going through.

I am going to start rambling on so I will keep this short. :o) I have to get on with the day, here in Canada its Thanksgiving and we are off for turkey and good food. Take care, hope all is well with you. Jeni
