About Me:
I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in Oct. 2006 and I fought the establishment as hard as i could to keep my thyroid, at least the side without the lump, because I forget to take pills. Turns out there was more than one lump. You think cancer is the most frightening word you'll hear until you hear metastasis, even for the "best" cancer. I hated hearing that label until I met someone (doctor or layperson, don't remember... hopefully layperson) who didn't know i had the "best" cancer. Turns out i much preferred to hear it than not. Apparently metastasis for thyroid cancer doesn't mean the same as in other cancers, I was still stage 1. Well then you need to call it something else, I told them (Them? hmm still don't know if "them" were real).
Anyway, next came Radioactive Iodine. The first time I laughed in a long time when I came home to find a message from Nuclear Medicine, for some reason it was the most hilarious thing I ever heard, talk about an oxymoron. Without getting too technical I was to go without my hormone replacement for 2 weeks before treatment. Yay I thought, on the first day,no pills for 2 weeks. You'll be tired they said. TIRED!!! I hereby am submitting a new word to Websters to describe the enforced state of advanced Hypothyroidism: BLEUGHURCH, one syllable, because monosyllability is one of the gazillion symptoms of BLEUGHURCH. It was a harsh lesson in learning what the little butterfly in our neck does for every living cell in our bodies. Anyway, fastforward a year of my body and organs trying to figure out what they were supposed to do with these little white pills and occasionally throwing temper tantrums and ganging up on me to demand to know what happened to Ms. Thyroid and when she was coming back. Eventually we all worked through our issues and decided to be grateful for the fact that I was cleared of cancer this past October, not even a trace of those little f****ers (am I supposed to keep it clean here?) who started to wander.. Yayy!!! But I still felt yucky and then Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips jumped out at me from the bookshelf, I was intrigued, who would put 'Sexy" and "Canser' in one sentence?
I read the entire book right there in the store, bought and then I called Brenda Cobb and booked myself on a flight to the Living Foods Institute where i detoxed and sprouted and blended and drank gallons of energy soup, and I don't feel so yucky anymore.
So now I'm a raw survivor and I plan to stay that way.
So everyone , please, please eat your seaweed and cry when stuff upsets you, don't let that lump grow in your throat.. or better yet, don't let anything upset you. Laugh at EVERYTHING.
Thank you Kris for writing your book, for sexing up Canser, for writing about Brenda and for letting me share my story here.

1996? 2006?

Unbeknowst to myself, until Mimi questioned me. i've been saying my cancer started in 1996, when it was actually 2006, and i just noticed thats what my About Me' also said. Is that my new funky hormones? A new form of dyslexia? My subconscious, conscience, ego? wishing it was 10 years ago. Hmmm!!

I'm so excited to share that after visiting my hairdresser, she informed me that I have alot of new growth, and she showed it ito me. I asked her how long she thought it was, about half a year, the same anount of time as I've been RAW. I was SO happy to hear that. On my last visit, about 6 months ago she confirmed my suspision that my hair was falling out more than normal, something I feared being sans Thyroid. Now I know this is the lifestyle for me, if it can regenerate hair follicles it must…

Hi Ann. Thanks so much for your message. I'm in the middle of treatment - going onto LID and off the meds on Monday. My lousy thyroid came out on July 21 at UCSF and to tell you the truth I think I might already be sort of hypo...definitely not myself in terms of mood, energy and overall hoodoo. But I guess this is nothing compared to the BLEUGHURCH to come! (In the last week, three or four doctors have told me RAI in hypo hell is the worst part.) Ah well. Any words of advice as a thyca warrior?!
