As a Company, Southwest Airlines is going to
support 'Red Fridays.'
Last week I was in Atlanta , Georgia attending a
conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard
several people behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest acts of patriotism I have ever seen.
Moving thru the terminal was a group of soldiers
in their camos. As they began heading to their gate, everyone (well almost everyone)was abruptly to their feet with their hands waving and cheering.
When I saw the soldiers, probably 30-40 of them,
being applauded and cheered for, it hit me. I'm not alone. I'm not the only red-blooded Am erican who still loves this country and
supports our troops and their families.
Of course I immediately stopped and began clapping
for these young unsung heroes who are putting their lives on the
line everyday for us so we can go to school, work and home without fear or reprisal.
Just when I thought I could not be more proud of
my country or of our service men and women, a young girl, not more than 6 or 7 years old ran up to one of the male soldiers. He kneeled down and said 'hi.'
The little girl then asked him if he would give
something to her daddy for her.
The young soldier, who didn't look any older than
maybe 22 himself, said he would try and what did she want to give to her daddy.. Then suddenly the little girl grabbed the neck of this soldier, gave him the biggest hug she could muster and then kissed him on the cheek.
The mother of the little girl, who said her daughter's name was Courtney, told the young soldier that her husband was a Marine and had been in Iraq for 11 months now. As the mom was explaining how much her daughter Courtney missed her father, the young soldier began to tear up.
When this temporarily single mom was done explaining
her situation, all of the soldiers huddled together for a brief
second. Then one of the other servicemen pulled out a military-looking walkie-talkie. They started playing with the device and talking back and forth on it.
After about 10-15 seconds of this, the young soldier walked back over to Courtney, bent down and said this to her, 'I spoke
to your daddy and he told me to give this to you.' He then hugged this little girl that he had just met and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He finished by saying 'your daddy told me to tell you that he loves you more than anything and he is coming home very soon.'
The mom at this point was crying almost uncontrollably and as the young soldier stood to his feet, he saluted Courtney and
her mom. I was standing no more than 6 feet away from this entire event.
As the soldiers began to leave, heading towards their gate, people resumed their applause. As I stood there applauding and
looked around, there were very few dry eyes, including my own.
That young soldier in one last act of selflessness, turned around and blew a kiss to Courtney with a tear rolling down his cheek.
We need to remember e veryday all of our soldiers and
their families and thank God for them and their sacrifices. At the
end of the day, it's good to be an American.
RED FRIDAYS ----- Very soon, you will see a great
many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the 'silent majority'. We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers.
We are not organized, boisterous or over-bearing.
We get no liberal media c overage on TV, to reflect our message or our opinions. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends,
simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops.
Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our
troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a
deafening message that.. Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar will wear something red.
PLEASE KEEP THEM IN YOUR PRAYERS!
When you're down to nothing, God is up to something.
This is beautiful! Try not to cry.
She jumped up as soon as she saw the surgeon come out of the operating room. She said: 'is my little boy ? Is he going to be all right ? When can I see him ?'
The surgeon said, 'I'm sorry. We did all we could, but your boy didn't make it.'
Sally said, 'Why do little children get cancer ? Doesn't God care any more ? Where were you, God, when my son needed you ?'
The surgeon asked, 'Would you like some time alone with your son ? One of the nurses will be out in a few minutes, before he's transported to the university.'
Sally asked the nurse to stay with her while she said good bye to son. She ran her fingers lovingly through his thick red curly hair. 'Would you like a lock of his hair ?' the nurse asked.
Sally nodded yes. The nurse cut a lock of the boy's hair, put it in a plastic bag and handed it to Sally.
The mother said, 'It was Jimmy's idea to donate his body to the University for Study. He said it might help somebody else. 'I said no at first, but Jimmy said, 'Mom, I won't be using it after I die. Maybe it will help some other little boy spend one more day with his Mom.' She went on, 'My Jimmy had a heart of gold. Always thinking of someone else. Always wanting to help others if he could.'
Sally walked out of Children's Mercy Hospital for the last time, after spending most of the last six months there. She put the bag with Jimmy's belongings on the seat beside her in the car.
The drive home was difficult. It was even harder to enter the empty house. She carried Jimmy's belongings, and the plastic bag with the lock of his hair to her son's room.
She started placing the model cars and other personal things back in his room exactly where he had always kept them. She laid down across his bed and, hugging his pillow, cried herself to sleep.
It was around midnight when Sally awoke. Laying beside her on the bed was a folded letter. The letter said :
'Dear Mom, I know you're going to miss me; but don't think that I will ever forget you, or stop loving you, just 'cause I'm not around to say 'I Love You'. I will always love you, Mom, even more with each day. Someday we will see each other again. Until then, if you want to adopt a little boy so you won't be so lonely, that's okay with me. He can have my room and old s tuff to play with. But,if you decide to get a girl instead, she probably wouldn't like the same things us boys do. You'll have to buy her dolls and stuff girls like, you know. Don't be sad thinking about me. This really is a neat place. Grandma and Grandpa met me as soon as I got here and showed me around some, but it will take a long time to see everything. The angels are so cool. I love to watch them fly. And, you know what? Jesus doesn't look like any of his p ictures. Yet, when I saw Him, I knew it was Him. Jesus himself took me to see GOD ! And guess what, Mom ? I got to sit on God's knee and talk to Him, like I was somebody important. That's when I told Him that I wanted to write you a letter, to tell you good bye and everything. But I already knew that wasn't allowed. Well, you know what Mom ? God handed me some paper and His own personal pen to write you this letter. I think Gabriel is the name of the angel who is going to drop this letter off to you. God said for me to giv e you the answer to one of the questions you asked Him 'Where was He when I needed him ?' 'God said He was in the same place with me, as when His son Jesus was on the cross. He was right there, as He always is with all His children. Oh, by the way, Mom, no one else can see what I've written except you. To everyone else this is just a blank piece of paper. Isn't that cool ? ! I have t o give God His pen back now. He needs it to write some more names in the Book of Life. Tonight I get to sit at the table with Jesus for supper. I'm sure the food will be great.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. I don't hurt anymore. The cancer is all gone. I'm glad because I couldn't stand that pain anymore and God couldn't stand to see me hurt so much, either. That's when He sent The Angel of Mercy to come get me. The Angel said I was a Special Delivery ! How about that ?
Signed with Love from God, Jesus & Me.

I'm doing OK today but the weekend was horrible. I ended up at the friggen ER again yesterday. I held off as long as I could but it got to the point that I couldn't even sleep because of the pain. This last trip to the ER was the absolute worst.
Anyhow I hope your counts get up enough for next week. Talk soon!

Things are good here, on Monday we see the oncologist to see when Sid will start his chemo. Nervous about it, but know its got to be done.
Looks like another rainy weekend here. Going to try a fushion class this afternoon, see what its all about. Its a mixture of yoga, weights, pilates. Anyway GF, wishing you a good weekend and don't forget to take some time for yourself. I'm thinking of you and know better days are ahead. xo Vivian
