About Me:
i am a young breast cancer survivor and mother of beautiful 5 year old twin boys named zakk and xander. i have the most amazing husband dale. we celebrated our TENTH wedding anniversary last fall. i was diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) back on 9-11 of 2006. BAM! (b/c i needed another reminder that that date was NOT a good date!) i had a single mastectomy and immediate (TRAM flap) reconstruction (BELLY BOOB baby!!) about ONE MONTH after my diagnoses. not much time to be afraid for sure. i did my homework and googled my life away and spent HOURS educating myself about my cancer and ck'd out more books than i want to remember at the library. after alot of healing, i had more surgery to finish up my reconstruction. after that, i learned that i carry the lovely breast cancer GENE and i am BRCA 2+ (translation: my butt is at SUPER HIGH red alert for breast AND ovarian cancer) FUN! so this past fall, after many months of scans and "watching me like a hawk" at NYU in the early detection program....and after my ovary decided to enlarge....i had an "oophorectomy" to remove my ovaries and tubes and shoot me directly into menopause OH WHAT FUN!!! let's just say it is NOT easy to leave your clothes on in bed after this and i am NOT talking "oh hello hubby!" stuff! this is for ME! lol it's like HOT SWEAT central over here. so let's see....i am just about done with my breast reconstruction....one or two more pigmentations to go and i am DONE baby!!!! i feel good, i love life, i adore my family and i grab life by the core and LIVE LIVE LIVE! i absolutely LOVE kris carr and am probably her biggest fan (stalker?) oh did i mention?? i am "the singer in the band" too. be sure to ck out my band page!

I've been there, done that and faced death in the face...i kicked cancer in the BUTT and i am darn proud of that. THIS is ONLY the beginning...my life is MUCH BETTER since i started to LIVE my LIFE!!! it's all about the music baby....and A LOT of creativity!!!

Hi Amy - Just wanted you to know that I so appreciated your great advice on my DCIS situation. Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of having a surgeon who is interested in presenting options or information, (I've actually seen two and Tuesday am going to see a 3rd) so everything I am learning is from the Internet and piecing together what is said on my path reports. That's the downside of living in "Stepford Wives" Utah.

I've come to the conclusion that I will have to have a lumpectomy and then see what we are dealing with. If it seems appropriate, I'll go back for a mastectomy, but probably a bi-lateral and then do what you did - have an instant reconstruction. There is one good reconstructionist here in Utah, and she is not on my insurance. But I will try to work with that the best that I can as the situation arises.

Hey girl, Just wanted to give you some good news on Lisa. She is doing great and got the word today that they are not going to have to take muscle from her back and no radiation. Three reconstruction sessions and no word on chemo. How are you doing? I treasure our time together and think of you often. Love ya, Mom.
