About Me:: I am a single mother of a beautiful son who happens to have autism. I was recently diagnosed with colon cancer, july'08. Despite and because of these gifts/challenges we are quite blessed. My son continues to strive, improve and impress those around him (those that didn't think he could) while I sit back and admire his daily improvements and cry/rejoice that I passed along my strength and determination to him:). I'm tackling my diagnosis with the same fervor that I tackled his: research, research, research! I've already had 1 surgery and will start chemo shortly. I love cooking, reading, yoga and spending time with my son.

To write or not to write a kids book

HELP!!!! How do I explain to Kyle about my cancer? I haven't found any cancer books for kids with autism ARGH!! Maybe, just maybe, while I'm getting my 3 hr. treatments I can start writing one and then while I'm at home finishing up the other 46 hours of treatment (OMG) I can finish the book! No wonder the nurse said some patients feel like crap for 10 days and good for 4 then it's time to come back for more, lol. SCARLET LETTER 'C'

Ok, even before I was diagnosed I rarely left the house not because I didn't have a life (ok maybe that's partially true) but mostly because the only reasons I did leave were either related to doctor's appointments for my other ailments, for my son's multiple therapy sessions or his doctor's appointments or my volunteer work. If there are no books for children with Autism about their Mommie having cancer, perhaps G-d has given you the "gift" of being the first one in the whole wide world do write such a thing..........Last night, I was thinking about how angry I have been over the difficulties I've been through in my entire life...and then, all of a sudden I realized at the very same moment that G-d didn't give me the difficulties, He gave me the grace and the humor to get through the difficulties....(like walking thru the valley of the shadow of death and fearing no evil because He is with me, etc....) I also do illustrations and paintings if you are in need of some free advice for your book....but the best thing is to do it all your own self on paper and then just keep refining it at night in bed on your lap....etc......Love to you and great big hugs and kisses to your baby boy! Living alone for over 4 years now since daughter moved out. We have painted their room (her old room) and now she is getting ready to try to find a job in plebotomy, that she has previous experience in. She is getting there. All of a sudden I am Mom again, and Grandma full time. My other grandkids are all up in Ut. I miss them all so much. I was able to see them for a short time in July. Hope that all is well. You are in my prayers as you take on chemo. Are you having radiation also? I have to call and make an appt. for another colonoscopy, surgeon wants to take a good look............
