- About Me:
- My Name is Lisa Pilla. I am a Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Auntie and Friend. I am also a Competitor, a Fighter and a Survivor. This past November I was faced with the biggest challenge of my life. I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer that has traveled to my lungs but the doctors cannot find it in my colon. I was also told that this was an incurable cancer… those words mean absolutely nothing to me. Telling me something is impossible just makes me fight harder and want to defy all odds! I had a cough for about 3 months, I didn't go to the dr. right away because I was nursing my 4 month old twins. I had to ask the dr. for a chest x-ray when anitboitics didn't make the cough go away. At the age of 32, with 4 month old twins and a 2 year old I was diagnosed with this godawlful disease. I have gone through 17 rounds of chemotherapy at Ohio State University and counting. I feel healthy and strong, my tumors are shrinking and there is no doubt in my mind that I will beat the crap out of this.

It must be hard doing so many rounds. I think 12 is enough! Are they giving you a number to get to or are you on the chemo rounds till the tumors are shrinking? I really hope the scan comes back with good results. I guess I am lucky and just don't realize it as I am stage III but they got the whole tumor out and it hadn't spread except in 10 lymphnodes. I am doing the chemo to make sure not one cell escaped into another area of my body. I guess everyone has their battles to fight..right. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and let me know how your results come back! Lisa
I definitely think the ivf was a cause of this but just hard to prove huh! I just had my 6th dose of chemo yesterday and am now half way done! Can't wait to finish and move on hopefully. I moved here from the midwest 11 years ago...lived in the city for 9 years and then just moved out to Westchester 2 years ago. still work in the city though. hope you get back here too as it is so important to have your support group around you! You are an inspiration to me who just started this whole process! It's so nice to meet other young people going thru this as it is really hard to find a lot of younger women with colon cancer. I just read your comment to Jen as she had e-mailed me. I also had IVF and my doctors to this day told me they tested my tumor and I don't have a "gene" for cancer and don't know really how i got it. I said oh I think I have a pretty good idea since I did 4 rounds of IVF last year at the max. drugs and max. days. I guess you never really know but I really think there is a connection there. I am so glad you got your son out of your IVF rounds! Unfortunately I did not get pregnant but at least now I know why! I wish you all the best! Lisa
