- I'm 49 years young and the greatest gift I have ever received, apart from life itself, is my son Matt who's with me in the attached photo. For all that I am, I am more because of him. I brought Matt up on my own for about 11 years and I prefer to think we were kinda lucky while he was growing up because we didn't have to share each other with anyone else.
I now also share my life with my wonderful partner Ashley (my rock) and the Wookie (our beautiful Australian Shepherd), Holly (aka Grey Cat who at 20 years old definitely has more than 9 lives), Puss (aka Black Cat, she's the young one, she's only about 17) and not forgetting Bundy (the Galah).
I enjoy good physical health, although I think emotionally I'm a bit screwy at times (it's the hormones you know). When I thought about signing up to this site, I hesitated at first because I didn't think it would be right since I don't have CanSer but it's about LIFE right so here I am!
CanSer has touched my life and my heart. BC has added quite a few chapters to my Mum's book and I've had two lots of biopsies taken in the last 12 months but all okay. Ashley's partner of 15 years Robin died of CanSer 4 years ago at the age of 49. I had worked closely with Ash for about 3 years when Robin was diagnosed and yep, it sucked big time to not be able to work magic for a friend - Robin died 5 months after being diagnosed. So then Ash got on his 1000cc sports bike and just rode for a few months but geez it was sooooo good to see him again when he returned to work. I missed his Dastardly and Muttley laugh and his dimples, and the conversations we used to have over the partition without getting up - that's when people thought we were talking to ourselves but we just called it the "Information Superhighway".
Then in early 2006, I decided my life needed a kick start, I was in a rut, stagnating . . . so I packed up my home and headed off to live and work in Bath in the UK for a while . . . but not long after I arrived, my sister-in-law Cathy was diagnosed with an 8.5mm brain aneurysm so there was no question about where I need to be . . . she wasn't just family, she had been in my life 26 years and was my dearest girlfriend.
And yes, the following months were really really scary. We came within a whisker of losing Cathy during the surgery and due to her massive stroke, she spent 6 weeks in rehab learning to walk and talk and feed herself all over again - oh, and regain her eyesight at least in one eye. What a girl! Talk about the power of the human spirit! If you met her today, you wouldn't know that this was her story.
So how does Ashley fit into all this? Well I thought I was wearing my mask really well, you know, putting on a brave positive face because (as my family would say) I could cope with anything but he saw right through me like I was made of glass! So he became my rock, my port in the storm, my hiding place - he kept me strong so I could be strong for Cathy and my brother Mark and my neice and nephew. And funnily enough, in supporting me, Ash started to share his own thoughts and feelings that he hadn't been able to speak of before. And now when I think back over the last 18 months, I'm not sure who healed who but does it really matter anyway.
Someone told me many many years ago to not go searching for books to read for they would be presented to me when I was meant to read them and this is exactly one of those times. As I wallowed in my peri-menopausal symptoms yesterday, too depressed and teary to go to work, I turned on the Oprah show and there was good ol' Dr Oz but he had a suit on! Now that got my attention - and with them was this beautiful young woman so I was intrigued. Now all I can say is "oh my goodness, thank you so much for Kris, her contagious spirit, MyCrazySexy Life and this website!"
So now I've kicked myself up the butt, apologised to Ashley for giving him such a hard time the last couple of days, and got out the juicer.

Thank you x I hope to get be able to tune in a little more now that some of the "crazy" stuff is over. We lost an elderly family member recently - well less than 2 weeks ago actually - and I didn't count on the emotional impact it would have on me. Bessie had a great innings as I like to refer to it as but I think her passing was was a strong reminder for me about honouring and respecting the past but embracing today for all that it is - and so much about family and friends. And this crazy sexy community is all about that huh. Take good care of you x
