About Me:
Hi everyone! Wow, what a place this is!! I'm thinking, how should I introduce myself? I saw the film, Crazy Sexy Cancer and was totally blown away. Did a bit o'research and voila! here I am.

I don't have cancer, but I have a very intimate relationship with it. I took care of my mother who had breast and finally, bone cancer. Now, I am a Shanti volunteer where I provide emotional and practical support for homeless women with breast cancer. I am passionate about this. On a personal level, I am here to heal, to find direction for my physical and spiritual life. I'm not happy with me, I am out of shape, drink too much, and just generally, when I am by myself, not a happy camper. I am looking for the tools to fix me!
Where do you live? (city, state, country)
San Francisco, CA USA
Relationship Status:
Married
Favorite Quote:
"If you can't say anything nice about someone, come sit by me." I know, I know not karmically wise, but I laugh every time I hear this.
Favorite Book:
Too many to say...Homer's Illiad, Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster (nasty funny), Anything by Camus...
What's your personal mission statement?
I am here to connect, to give and to try to make things better.

Day 3 or gosh I need better blog titles

It's been a full week now since I made the concious choice to get my act together. Like a turtle slowly poking its head out if its shell, I decided to emerge from my self-created morass of self pity. I donned the glittery nail polish and stepped outside of my shell and WHOMP! Bumped, head on, to a wonderful life! I haven't been sitting around moping all day...ok, kinda. I'd check my email, putter around the apartment doing house-wifey things. Turn on old Will and Grace reruns and pour myself a… Continue

Huitlacoche, Yes! It's all about the Huitlacoche!

I feel good! Thank you, CSL for following me through my days since discovering you! I don't have cancer, which makes feel like an interloper of sorts when I read the posts on this site. However, and by no means do I even dare compare the seriousness of a cancer with depression or anything that colors my day. But sometimes, one's perspective can be as limiting and/or life shattering as any deadly disease. It comes down to a sense of control, or lack thereof. When I lose a feeling of control and f… Continue

Day 1

I was here all evening reading and exploring. I am inspired! I was to get my life together! I am so not happy....and really, on the surface, cannot justify my dysphoria. I have a wonderful husband, who loves me, and I love him. I live in the most beautiful city (save for Paris) in the world. But I feel so unfocused and out of control. I drink waaaaay too much...although! and this is a good thing...I had my last glass of Vodka yesterday morning, and last night, when my husband called on his wayho… Continue

you're too funny, I have never been to Texas yet but have ventured to New Orleans (talk about yummy fattening food) and just recently to Alabama. I tried me some collard greens. They weren't awful but they weren't my favorite (and I am a veggie lover). Could be the way they were prepared.
I saw a few of your comments on a thread talking about farmer's market. I need to learn the art of bargaining myself....we are on a tight budget right now and want to eat well/healthy but at the same time....I know it's tough for the farmer's too and I don't want to insult them by trying to bargain them down so I don't even work up the nerve to try!:(
Speaking of living in new and strange places....I am a tried and true NYer now in a midwest city. I am so used to having every culinary delight at my fingertips....been a tough adjustment and the palates out here are weak! :)
I was fortunate enough to find some fava beans at the WF this week.....made a lovely pasta with some prosciutto and fresh grated romano over it. I don't think I could find that dish anywhere around here in a restaurant. :)
Have a good day!

Yes, loved that movie. I should watch again....it's been ages since I've seen it. Love foreign and indie films in general...how bout you?
I was in SF last Oct for the first time...wish I had more time there but it was a pit stop for a wedding and then on to my own wedding in HI! It definitely is culinary oriented which is wonderful.....at least there are many resources for you get healthy, fresh foods.
I want to come back to visit again someday.....luckily my husband has family near that area. Are you a CA native?

Welcome. I love you site and we have a ton of folks here that have been the biggest advocates for change on the planet like our famous Goony because she loved and took care of and helped her father in law pass onto the next place from cancer. I cannot wait to get to know you and look forward to being friends. I love your name. I grew up in louisiana and cooscoos is the name of the most delicious cajun dish.... full of spice and joy.. how did you get the name.. So visit and make yourself comfortable and welcome to the village of light. This is a great place to empower yourself and get healthy. We are all in healing so welcome to a healing place. Hugs.. callie
