About Me:
I am a wife, daughter, sister, friend living with colon cancer. I was diagnosed in May this year and am now on round 6 of 12 chemo treatments! I am enjoying my life and living it to the fullest. I am so lucky as I have the most amazing support group of friends and family who are getting me thru this! I could not do all of this without them! I realize now how many people have laughed, cried, supported me, given up their time and had fun with me thruout this whole ordeal. I am a very lucky "sexy cancer" vixen who is going to beat this crazy cancer and go on!

Favorite Quote:
This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind...let it be something good!
Favorite Book:
Oh there are so many to just chose one! I have been in a bookclub in NYC for 10 years and we have read soooo many great books!
What's your personal mission statement?
I am going to beat this cancer and be a SURVIVOR!

Thanks for writing back. I have four little dogs that I walk twice a day so that keeps me moving. I will keep in touch....I'll find out Friday when I start chemo.

Hi Lisa;

I'm on a month-long break from treatment, having finished 30 days of radiation in combination with wearing the chemo pump. I sailed along through the first 3 weeks of that treatment, then hit a wall. It was brutal, with crippling diarrhea. I realize radiation isn't common therapy...but since the one positive lymph node they found was in my pelvis it was a recommended precaution.
I see my oncologist Friday to get a date to start 12 bi-weekly chemo treatments. I'm just curious...can you tell me how you are feeling halfway through? What are your side-effects? I got laid off 9/30 and am cautious about making a serious effort to get back into the workforce, not knowing if I will be able to give 100% to a new career endeavor. Do you work? Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

good..just wanted to make sure that i comment back to the right person..are you close to the hospital where you had your surgery? my hospital has a group therapy that meets once a week, for women who have similar breast cancer, and there are also social workers that we can meet with one on one. I also know that there are several organizations in manhattan that offer some help, check out gilda's club, and you could also look at cancercare.org and the american cancer society's website for some infrormation. I find that my group therapy helps me tremendously!! My very best wishes to you.

Hi Lisa,
I see that you are also from New York state: nice to meet another New Yorker on this web!!
Your story is very inspirational; your positive attitude and fighting spirit are just awesome! Can you please let me know what were your symptoms prior to your diagnosis? Did you have any abdominal or pelvic pain?? Any blood in the stool? Any bloating, difficulty digesting certain foods? Colon c has different symptoms for different people; so, its not always so clear cut. Currently, I am trying to figure out what's going on with me and the symptoms that I have: its not always easy and simple, for sure!
Have a nice Sunday!

Lisa,
I too think it that some how these fertility drugs played a part...even though my doctors don't. I just saw that you are from NY and part of the hudson valley girls...I lived in Latham, NY and I moved to OH last year before my diagnosis. I am trying to get my family back there hopefully very soon. My enrtire support system is on the East Coast. I hope you are doing well and hopefully your chemo rounds are almost over. Hope to hear from you soon

Hang in there kiddo. I still have numb fingertips and bottom of my feet. Hopefully you won't have that. You might want to read Patrick Quillen's book " Beating Cancer with Nutrition". I wish I knew about it while I was on chemo because he suggest a lot of supplements you can take and diet to eat to to combat side effects. Take Care, Judy

Hi Lisa, My hair got VERY thin, and I had a bald patch on the back of my head. I didn't think it would bother me, but it really did. My second round was in the winter, and I bought myself a bunch of hats, both for the thinning hair, and for the cold. Are you getting any numbness in your fingers and toes? That happened to me also; a very strange feeling. Hang in there! Cheryl
