At 9:10pm on October 11th, 2008, Jennifer said…: hi genie, is your grandson still having separation issues? there is a book called The Kissing Hand that is GREAT for school separation. we read that book every night for months before school. let me know if you guys need any help more help with separation stuff. that is a lot of what my partner teaches since it is a huge part of attachment. he's got all kinds of nuggets to use.

we love waldorf. i was really afraid to hand my child over to someone else and i have no fears about where he is. we got really lucky, too. there are two kindergarten teachers and we not only got the teacher we wanted but it turns out that she has the mellow, gentle class (although the other class would still be considered mellow compared to public school classes!) AND benjamin had made a friend who was going to be going to the school and they ended up in the same class. this friend has made a huge difference in how quickly benjamin adjusted. we go over to their house every morning and walk to school with them and when i say goodbye he almost always get to hold this boy's hand to walk to the class.

it is really a lovely school. they all get their own fairy that we make for them. the fairies just magically show up in class at different times. there is a ton of magic--fairies and gnomes-- plus they make soup and bread and go hiking. there is so much emphasis on rhythm and i can see how much benjamin has benefited from that. obviously, i just can't say enough about it!

Lori, after writing you a long post about your problems, I came to your page and see you are raising kids and grandkids. Ay carumba, chica, you deserve a medal for all you do and all you've been through.

I'm a grandma, too, and see and take care of the kids on nearly a daily basis, but if they lived here . . . I might be a teeny bit strained.
