Doreen

About Me:: I am an 8 year colon cancer survivor. Currently stage IV, but surviving and thriving! I wake up each day thankful to be alive and my head crammed with things I want to do! I love design, I was a professional interior designer before cancer, but love to dabble in all art forms. I recently decided to start singing again (I used to sing professionally). To hell with waiting until my cancer goes away! I put out my intention to sing with a big band and lo and behold the universe answered! I will be giving my first performance with a kick ass R & B band next weekend. And have a little jazz combo in the works. I also have a trip planned to see Jack Johnson at the Kokua festival in April, then will be fulfilling my life long desire to go to France on a pilgrimage to Lourdes next month. In between all this, I have to fit in chemo treatments, as my cancer has taken a nasty turn. But I try to focus on the larger part of me that is well.
I love my family and friends and right now I think my life is the best it's ever been!

At 10:27am on July 14th, 2008, Doreen said…: Right now I am eating primarily vegan, and loving it. Also try to juice when I'm not doing chemo. Before I was diagnosed, I had some bloating and blood in my stool, but not until maybe 3 months before I was diagnosed. I was stage III, and colon cancer tumors grow slowly, so that could have been growing for years. Like most cancers, colon cancer has no symptoms usually until the tumor is quite large.

Are you the Reiki practitioner that is being marketed or are you just trying to promote Reiki as a practice in general??

And yes, I surf. I LOVE it! Are you telling me, girl, you went all the way to Hawaii and didn't search for your sweet spot on the top of some fiberglass?? Say it ain't so.....

People think stage 4 is a death sentence, but I see it as a chronic illness. cancer has really brought out the best in people. I have great friends now that were mere acquantances before I was diagnosed. Life is so much richer now that I'm allowed to live with my heart outside my body and have shed all the masks we aquire as we grow up. I hope your singing career takes off and people can see what a cancer survivor really looks like- fabulous. Take care- Jen
